Not to crush any dreams or anything but Sylvester is a very old lad and many years is kinda idk how to not be a depressing debbie but, overly hopeful? Considering he may actually already be 8. Lifespan is 4 to 8. He has already beat most piggies sofar. I'd be overjoyed if we got to keep watching him but I'm also realistic to a fault... hes outlived many of her guineas already. It's amazing he has made it this far with minimal health hiccups. It's like having a 12 year old dog, youd love for them to live till they are 20 but realistically, got maybe 1? 2 if really lucky left. Oh yea if this us offensive to anyone I apologize I have slight autism and dont always get how to be um sensitive/considerate? of peoples feelings in place of logic. I get in trouble for it all the time.... I agree Sylvester is my favorite too tho.

@@lpdb1995 Sorry but a guinea pig's lifespan isn't 4-8, more 5-10. Many guinea pigs don't reach a high age because people don't feed them well or don't treat them when they're sick. All of my guinea pigs (3 of mine haves passed so far) reached an age of 7, one even of almost 8 years. My rabbits are almost 14 now which is ancient for rabbits and of course we still hope they'll reach their 14th, 15th, 16th birthday. Also no one's "getting their hopes up" You can hope that a pet or a friend will stay with you for several years even if you know it might not be realistic.

@@feemuller7107 everywhere I read is 4-8. Or 5-7 oldest ever was 14 that's Guinness record. Sofar you've agreed on age while saying "no that's wrong" some rabbits can live a very long time depending on breed quality of Genes and how often you stress it out. Long drawn out blah blah blah I know everything comment is really not all that relevant. Google is your friend find me a single page where it says they live that long or even a forum that says they can live that long. I'm not finding anyone who agrees with you anywhere. Sorry not sorry. I rescue senior animals regularly my cousin is a vet and I've raised pretty much everything under the sun from mammal to reptile to freaken fish. I steer clear if birds but that's about it. And saying that you hope is the definition of Hope's up. Better wording would be hope he stays healthy as long as possible. English ain't even my first language but I seem to have a better grasp then you. All yours guineas reached 7 one almost 8? Still staying within 4-8 genius. Bet math wasnt your strongest eh? I'm training as a veterinarian assistant currently, wrong one to argue with sweet cheeks...

I have a guinea pig that is going to be 7 years old in June. He is still full of energy and spends most of his time making noise in his cage. He loves to explore and walk around on the ground. He has a two-year-old friend who loves to popcorn. He sometimes joins in and does zoomies too. He doesn't act like an old pick what so every. I love him very much and hope I can spend many more years with him.

Anyone else early? Also, we have an old guide pig. We didn’t know it but she was pregnant. We never took her to the vet or anything bc we didn’t know! Miraculously, she lived and now she has three healthy babies named grace,lucky, and Kyle ren! Her name I leia by the way. Your videos helped me to know what to do for her after, so thanks you!!! Their pretty much grown up now and we’re putting them up for adoption bc they are so cute and bc we don’t have room for them, but you guys helped me tru that! Thanks!

aww Sylvester! Love him! My Snickers turned 8 last Autumn. She's still healthy but you can see she is an old lady - skinny butt, losing weight slowly, sleeps a lot and deep, is a bit wobbly on her legs. But she is still an important part of her herd.

Sylvester reminds me of my late Rocky Rhodes. They have different personalities, but I like elder piggies. Rocky was insane right up to the end! He was exploring my computer desk, and checking out a map of Africa, just a day or two before he passed away. Both our current guinea pigs are five years old.

My boy, Flash, is ancient also. I have lost track of his age exactly, but he has to be at least seven and maybe eight. I have never had a pig live so long or be so healthy. I do feed him fresh greens daily, always free hay, and timothy pellets, just 1/8 cup per day. He eats tangerines, strawberries, carrots, cucumber slices, radishes, fresh organic spring mix. He seems happy and interactive but I do notice he sleeps more and just lies out flat in his hidey. So cute! He is my last remaining piggie and has lived alone for his last couple years but gets a lot of daily attention. He sired three litters and has had three "wives" over the years. But he has outlived his mates and his children were placed in loving homes. I so enjoy your videos. I have kept guinea pigs for at least 25 years and I bred them for 12 years. At that time we lived in California where they could be outside in their natural habitat running around in colonies in my yard, grazing on grass like little herds of colorful horses, racing like bullets to hide under bushes. They also had their own barn to sleep safely in at night to avoid feral cats. Hawks were their daytime predators, but if provided with sufficient cover, they are too fast for them. Piggies don't dig or burrow so our six foot wooden fence was sufficient to keep them safely contained. It was such fun to see them living their lives naturally along with so many piggie behaviors that are not usually observed in captivity. They are such social creatures with many different social rituals and protocols. Having a "herd sire" is much like having a bull or a stallion. The colony boss. He keeps the girls in check from bullying each other and when he naps, the colony naps with him. Adorable to watch. The adult males can get very vicious when defending their territory and their females, but we had sufficient room for them to establish their areas and the fighting was brief and over with. If they are trapped in confined areas, they may fight to the death. If they can retreat, they will simply scuffle. Needles to say, the babies had popcorn sessions morning and evening which never ceases to delight me. Mommy always popcorns with them at playtimes. As I said, I am so happy I ran into your videos. Love them!!! I have so many stories I could tell, but who but another piggie lover would care to listen.

My guinea pig died today. He was 4 & unfortunately was very sick. We took him to the vet yesterday & they didn't seem too worried. But he went down hill quickly when we got him home. I spent most of the day crying my eyes out. We buried him in the back yard. I'll miss him so much.
