yeah working a a kicthen you have a waste sheet so you know what your gonna throw out before it touched the bin, basically anything on the waste sheet was allowed to be taken as long as it wasn't in the bin already, but only for home use. Like a loaf of bread thats 1 day past its sell buy date, so i didnt need bread that week

This is more entertaining than most tv show out these days. I’ve been watching videos for about an hour and there been so much character development. There’s been sabotage, outbreaks, people getting arrested, natural disasters. The lore behind this bakery is wild. Keep it coming. 😂

You don't take food out of the bin. I do fully agree on the food waste, but once it's in with the rest of the garbage it's not safe. Honestly even if it wasn't what got everyone's sick, that is a huuuuuuge safety concern

To those who think a person could not be that stupid: I managed a kitchen in a grocery store deli, and this is what the self-proclaimed "head chef" did. He pushed a pile of garbage down into the bin with his bare hands (lots of raw chicken waste in there). He proceeded to dust his hands with breading from the tub used to bread raw chicken, then he pulled on polyurethane gloves so he could work on a fresh fruit tray. When i stopped him and said he needed to wash his hands, he looked me dead in the eye and angrily said, "I'm wearing gloves!"

Tbh the better red flag is taking food out of a bin less than a month after having food hygiene training (because what else could he be doing) without any disciplinary action she could easily be sued. Accidentally using meat that was contaminated somewhere else isnt your fault as a business so as long as you notify customers/recall the product, no internal actions have to be taken

alex is not at fault for the fact they were delivered bad meat. eoin however is at fault for serving food at of the bin, regardless if the food had listeria on it or not, that's a huge health code violation!

It could be cross contamination though. The sausage meat will have arrived raw, contaminated.

I read someone’s comment about the apples being on the bin where the sausage roll were and that how they got infected with Listeria

The twist of the infected sausage meat means that it wasn’t the apples! Because the meat had been fully cooked, they initially had discarded that as where the listeria had come from. That was how they discovered the apples had been taken out of the bin. So… while they THOUGHT they had caught the culprit (dirty apples), it turns out that the sausage had been infected with the listeria bacteria after all and their first assumption was totally correct.

I understand not wanting to waste food. The amount of it I saw thrown away when I worked at Kroger was astounding. There was probably enough in one week to feed every homeless person in the greater Detroit area. Their 'Zero hunger, zero waste' program is a bad joke. That said, you don't take unpackaged food out of the trash, especially not fruit, veggies, or meat. Actually, you don't take meat out at all, regardless of packaging.

In Ireland, if a food service employee is sick with vomiting and/or diarrhea, they must not return to work until they have been symptom-free for 48 hours.

@ixchelkali sounds sensible. We don't really do sensible in the US. Food service workers here could get into serious trouble with their boss if they stayed home. At the very least they'll probably tell you to find someone to cover your shift or it will be considered a no show. Some will ask for a Dr's note for proof. American food service workers are likely to work through it. Best to not piss off the boss. It's really a shame :/
