they are chonky little birbs though, second tiniest parrot alive and its beak can easily put cockatiels to shame (mine like to nibble my fingers, if she oversteps accidentally the beak pierces right through the skin), as well as VERY assertive, first response to anything they dont know is try to bite, not fly away

@reesaserik37593 жыл бұрын
True that. I had Budgies and one Cockatiel when I was younger. One Budgie, in particular, was so curious of the Cockatiel he literally harassed him constantly. At one point I 'heard' the budgies head hit the baseboard. The cockatiel had grabbed him by the beak and shoved him away. I was in the room, watching, and it happened fast. I was concerned until the parakeet went back after the Cockatiel. The budgie seemed to get even more excited and aggressive. They can be relentless. I put the Cockatiel back in his cage, because he was getting really annoyed. And you know that parakeet flew onto the Cockatiel's cage, still trying to get to him. Running all over the top of it, chittering, bobbing his head and spitting up seed. He was absolutely radical over that Cockatiel. I finally had to put the parakeet on lock down until his mind got distracted from the Cockatiel. They can be so aggressive almost to the point of insanity. And I found that budgies in a group are so much entertaining than a single budgie. If you have 5, each one will have it's own individual personality. They are amazing. Just like with mine, the other parakeets never harassed the Cockatiel -- only the one did.
@crisiliopoulos66423 жыл бұрын
Parrotlets are sooo much more assertive than budgies, mine will attack at anything and anyone it meets at first sight untill she determines that it is a friend and scritches are in place instead. The dont have a fight or flight instict, the have a flight AND fight instict (dive bombing to bite my neck, then demanding scritches) Also they are a lot stronger despite being a bit smaller.

I know this is a year old but.... I bought a parrolet (TUCO) and then I felt he needed a buddy. So I bought a parakeet (Cha Cha). I had them in separate cages next to each other at first and left the doors open. I kept a good eye on them to see what would go on. Tuco was a little annoyed there was another birdie but ignored Cha Cha at first. Then about a week later, Cha Cha started going in Tucos cage and wanted to hang with him. To my surprise knowing how territorial Tuco is, he let Cha Cha stay in his house! Cha kept trying to get closer and closer to Tuco little by little and next thing I know they are side by side and Cha Cha is preening Tuco everyday around the same time in the morning and throughout the day. Tuco actually loved it and turns his head around and Cha goes all around Tucos head! I kept Cha’s cage next to Tuco with the door open for awhile just in case Cha wanted to get away or go back home. To my happiness, Tuco allowed Cha to move in immediately and they have never been apart since! I even removed cha’s cage and now they are roomies!! Tuco can still get annoyed with Cha when she tries to kiss him every now and then but he just squawks at her he doesn’t attack her. So now they are buddies and sit next to each other and sleep next to each other every night!! I think Tuco is a typical territorial parrotlet, but I think he really wanted a buddy to keep him company too... it’s really sweet how they are friends now and are hilarious together. I’m so happy it worked out! They are my babies and keep me smiling which we all need I think!! That video was so adorable you made too!! 🐦 ♥️🐤🐦😆👏

I recently introduced a 2 month old hand fed parrotlet to my 7 month old english budgie. My parrotlet acts very similar as this video but my budgie gets annoyed and bops the parrotlet on the head with his top beak when the parrotlet tries something annoying. They bicker a lot but love to visit each other in and out of their cages. No grooming going on yet. The English budgie is considerably larger than the parrotlet. I wanted a friend for my budgie without the constant chatter of 2 budgies and so far is working very well.

Keep them apart. The Parrotlet is a naturally agressive bird and the parakeet is more delicate and fragile. What you see in this video is unkind to the parakeet.
