@Safex2 ай бұрын
Not so different. On the elephant graveyard latest video (review of the special), there is a clip where Joe is explaining how he 'writes good enough', that he doesn't need to look at the keyboard while writing and how it is like timelapse where you think on each individual word. And actual comics describe as having an 'general' idea (bigger picture) and then throwing it out and honing it. He is probably just not introspective/self-aware enough to be a comic.

@@Safex you're missing the point much like Joe Rogan. What OP means is that Joe talks about comedy like it's a spiritually refined, ultra paranormal, yet, scientific understanding of a phenomena very few people have ever mastered and even few can even wrap their head around let alone understand like he and his pack of spiritually evolved comedy Gods. Which stands in stark contrast to the actual jokes he writes. 96% of which are jokes most 12-17 year old boys say to each other in the school bathroom or locker room. Utterly devoid of artistry whatsoever. No intelligence necessary. Meanwhile, when actual jokes are made in his presence? He lacks any clue there was even a joke made. To summarize, Joe Rogan believes comedians have attained some higher form of spiritual being that Noone below them can understand. Like no common folk can be funny or haven't made someone laugh, then, claims Joey "I s*** in the Shower" Diaz is the funniest person he's ever met....

Ahh yes, finally get Adam Sandler on your podcast just to talk about comedy like he wouldn't know these things. Then Joe goes and talks about fitness and mostly himself. He should have been asking Adam all kinds of questions from his childhood to what he's doing currently. Get his opinion on different topics, etc. Instead, Joe talks about himself, his routines, how to work out, and how to do comedy. No wonder halfway through Adam was getting visibly bored and tired of being there.

It was pretty boring and disappointing. He did mention Don't mess with the Zohan and how much he loved it but he just moved past it. I’ve done a lot of marketing for the music industry and I see this problem a lot where the people at the tops of labels with all their money confuse their monetary success with having an in depth understanding of the art form. Meanwhile as a marketing professional I also often see this dynamic where I have at least some key insight into at least what the market is responsive to and what variables certain demographics are inclined towards, so on, and this is often a point of contention between myself and these decision markers at the top who largely run on ego and a lack of informed logic. What’s worse is when I often see them think they actually have superior understanding of the artistic process, more so than the artists themselves by their own perception. I think this problem accurately encapsulates Joe’s relationship to the comedy field too. I think joes biggest strength is being that guy of average intelligence who feels fine asking the stupid questions, and I really wish he would just lean into that more. It’s a very challenging thing to maintain that though without getting a big head especially when you are actually dominating a certain domain in a lot of ways like he does in the podcast space. It’s funny how success can have this counterintuitive effect where sometimes the more success one finds, the more the quality of their work can be compromised.
