Otis Taylor is another example. Not many 6ft 3in 215lb recivers in 1968 that ran like they were shot out of a cannon. He was the new prototype receiver in late 60's.

If Sterling Sharpe played for the 49ers in the late 80's or Dallas in the early 90's, he's in the hall of fame. He was a one man show on offense in Green Bay. They had no consistent QB and no threat in the backfield. Teams knew in order to stop the Packer offense, you had to stop Sterling. 7 seasons-595 rec-8134 yds-65 tds. He's a Hall of Famer in my book.

I'm a Bears fan and growing up in the 80's and 90's, during the old "Black and Blue" Division games, two players I had the utmost respect for a rival players was Barry Sanders and Sterling Sharpe. Game changers. I watched them both torch my team backthen and when I found out why I didn't see 84 for GB (don't get it twisted, can't stand GB lol), it kinda took something out of it for me then. It was a shame he got hurt right before they went on to Brett's first SB. If he was still there, Favre would've got more than 2 shots. He belongs in the Hall

Of course Sterling Sharpe should be in the Hall of Fame. Take his stats for the seven years that he played and compare them to the best seven years of any WR who ever played the game. There are a lot of WR's in the Hall of Fame who aren't qualified to shine Sterling's shoes. He was an absolute beast and was the very best in any stat, tangible or intangible, that anyone could come up with. If he hadn't gotten injured and ended up playing for twelve to fifteen seasons in the NFL, Jerry Rice would officially be the second best WR that ever played the game and Sterling would reign supreme.

All I can say is that Rice had a lot more years, not to mention a supremely gifted quarterback throwing to him throughout most of his career. Don't get me wrong, Farve was a great quarterback too, but he doesn't begin to compare to Montana. If you look at Rice Sharpe's stats, Sharpe was bigger, stronger, and faster than Jerry Rice but, one way or the other, both of them were huge talents and it's pretty much a subjective call as to which of the two was the better player.

Nothing against , Andre Rison . But if life was fair , Sterling was certainly deserving to have had TD catch opportunity . As someone who watched him when I was very young and a 49ers fan. When I saw Sterling play. You knew where he was at cause he was making play after play. The talent difference between and him and the 2nd best receiver on those teams was so big. Shit before his injury. Only Jerry Rice was a better WR than him in that era.

As a member of the Gamecock nation, I remember watching Sterling play in the Cockpit back in the 80's. Even then you could tell he should have a great pro career. When Favre arrived at Green Bay we all thought, "now they can kick *ss. One day Sterling will be Super Bowl MVP". Alas, that didn't happen, but Sterling still deserves to be in the NFL Hall of Fame on the strength of his stats. One of only 7 winners of the Triple Crown and the first player to have back-to-back 100+ receiving seasons, among other superlatives.

@German-English No, he didn't have way better stats. Also, Calvin played in a pass happy era were the rules changed to favor the offense. In the late 80's and early 90's when Sterling played, the defense could clutch and grab across the field and you weren't penalized for the hits that have been outlawed today. Sterling was all that! He was going to surpass Jerry! His numbers show that was the direction he was head.

As a Bears fan, this man was a walking nightmare. Uncoverable, strong, fast, agile, great hands, leaping ability. My dad nicknamed a member of the Bears secondary Lemuel Stinson "Burnt toast" in recognition of how often he got torched by Sterling. A true HOFer if I ever saw one.

Sterling Sharpe is easily a first ballot HOFer. It is a JOKE that he isn't in. 7 years is MORE than enough to prove what kind of player you are. Longevity counts for WAY TOO MUCH nowadays. You should have to prove that your aren't a one season wonder but outside of that, after you've proven yourself a player should be judged on their greatness, not their ability to play for a long time. As someone who watched Sterling every game of his pro career, I can say that it would be hard for me to pick Davante Adams as the greatest Packers receiver of my lifetime. It would be close, but the way Sterling broke tackles was a work of art.

I'm a bit biased having been born & raised in Milwaukee but there aren't 5 WRs in the 35+ yrs I've watched football better than Sterling. I wouldn't have called Majik a below average QB but with no running game and no other threat to score on offense he came in and established himself as one of the top WRs by year 2 on the team from the Siberia of the NFL at the time. He caught the TD from Majkowski vs CHI on the "instant replay TD" which for me was insane because that was the first time I watched the Packers beat the Bears in '89...started watching in '85 and they hadn't beat the Bears since 1984. He'll always hold a special place in my heart because I would ask "Why do we watch the Packers when they suck so bad?" until the 89 Cardiac Pack...still one of my favorite seasons as a Packer fan. But set all that bias aside he's absolutely a HOFer in the stiffest of definitions. When the Packers couldn't beat the Cowboys in 92 93 94 the argument could be made he was the best player on the field in those games. All due respect to Michael Irvin he was certainly the best WR of the 2 teams. And as Matt Millen would remind us every broadcast he did when he was assigned to a Packers game, Sterling bench pressed over 400 lbs...that should get a WR in the HOF to go with a 7 year career cut far too short because of injury not because he got sick of losing on the Lions

This is a good description of him. I can accept the argument that Rice is the best ever, but in my mind if I’m picking one of them to put on my team, I’m taking Sharpe. He was the total package, whereas I think of Rice as just a finesse player. You could out-physical Rice, not Sharpe. Speed, agility, strength, grit, route running, hands, IQ, Sterling had it all and was the only thing going on some very bad teams. I’m glad I got to see him play, and I believe if he wasn’t on a small market team that wasn’t very good, he would have been a first ballot hall of famer. It really bothers me when I see the hurt inside of him whenever this is addressed. It’s as if his career never happened, after he gave all he had to the sport and to his team.

In their first 7 years, Sharpe did have 67 more receptions (and probably many more targets) but Jerry Rice had 938 more total receiving yards and scored 28 more touchdowns...and that doesn't count the post season stats for Rice which is considerable. Jerry Rice is the GOAT - end of story Packer fans.

Green Bay wasn't my team. But every 'Bay of Pigs' match up I would watch him destroy my Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I also was able to see many other games Sterling played in. He is all he was cracked up to be and more. Brett Favre got to Green Bay in 1992 and then the Minister of Defense in 1993 came in. My opinion is, Sterling should be in. I compare him to Terrell Davis who is in HoF despite a shortened career. A player's conduct or attitude toward the press should not affect his standing for induction if his play on the field justifies his addition to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Although Gale Sayers had a great career his career was cut short by injuries as well, Sterling Sharp’s career was just as good if not better than Sayers & Terrell Davis, and although I’m a huge Eagles 🦅 fan there’s no way Harold Carmichael should have gotten in before Sterling Sharpe.
