Novak’s level this tournament (particularly the semi and final) was scary. Alcatraz and Sinner are both great players, and were playing decently, but Novak’s serve along with his groundstroke pace and depth were outrageous. Both those guys have huge groundstrokes, but Novak’s average FH was like 143 Km/h or something crazy like that.

It was a bizarre loss of form for him at the AO against Sinner. The extremely low first serve percentage and the high percentage of unforced errors in the first 2 sets was just strange. And when he did manage to up his level just a bit, he won the 3rd set. Sinner played very well in the 4th set to win the match. If he's in form, he is still very capable of beating these two.
@Mark-ut5oqАй бұрын
Could be many things: 1. It was windy. Novak’s form drops significantly when it is windy. See US open final 2012 or Wimbledon final 2023 for example. He sucks in windy weather 2. Rumours were that he was sick or carrying a long lasting virus 3. Maybe he was just not motivated. At some point, you just lose motivation no matter what you’ve accomplished. Have you ever had one of those days where you go to workout and your heart just isn’t in it? Yea, Novak could’ve had that too. I could say Novak just had a bad match against Sinner, but his form this entire year has been shambolic. And you don’t just get “old” within 2 months. So my guess is that Novak experienced an extreme loss in mental drive after 2023. It’s exhausting to stay at the top year after year, and maybe he just didn’t feel that killer instinct. I think he may regain it after experiencing the taste of defeat. However, he’s getting older and Sinner and Alcatraz should theoretically be getting better. So it will tougher from here on out.
@Mark-ut5oqАй бұрын
Also even in the 3rd set, Novak didn’t play well. He was lucky to even win one set against Sinner.
@tehatteАй бұрын
@@Mark-ut5oqI personally think it’s lack of motivation after a successful year. This has happened to him before, in 2012 and 2016. He needs to work hard in training just like anyone else to be in best form. If not in best form he can can lose to any top players, or even qualifiers.
@Whatreally123Ай бұрын
@@Mark-ut5oq he played better than in the first 2 sets. Overall he played poorly in the whole game. Just saying that even in one of his poorest forms, he still managed to win a set. Whatever it was I am certain he will come back strong. If anyone can do it, it's him.
@hello-mv6ygАй бұрын
@@tehatteDjokovic was still amazing in 2012. His competition was just amazing as well. He won AO, Miami, Rogers Cup, Shanghai, and ATP finals. That’s a damn good year. Murray and Federer were playing at a ridiculous level that year as well. Rafa was also nearly unbeatable on clay (as usual). I think 2016 had more to do with injury.

Nadal is looking to be in his last year of professional tennis, 4 years after his last show of dominance. We are yet to see last splutter of dominance from Djokovic. Maybe 2023 was it. Djokovic should still survive until 2027. If he cannot win grand slams in 2024 and not able to win major tourneys in 2025, he will drop out of top 50 in 2026, and he will retire by 2027.

It's not that Novak suddenly became old, it's just that 2023 took a lot from him and he will never be the same anymore. You don't recover from such a year at 37 the same way you do at your peak which he has done after 2011 until 2016. Imo Novak took advantage between 2021-23 in a time where there wasn't any real competition with Alcaraz and Sinner kinda coming through, but here and there, not constant threats. Medvedev is good, but not as good to stop a player like Novak week in week out. Nadal showed at RG 22 at what level you have to be, but only him at one tournament wasn't enough. Now after mental and physical burnout, Novak is done. At least for his standards. I'd predict him to play one more big final before retirement, but will remain at 24.
@vinothv56Ай бұрын
At this age, he can't win everything. AO is a blemish. He will conquer 50:50 slams at this stage but expecting him to win wherever he plays is difficult considering his age and physical ability. Any title from here is a bonus, as he already achieved everything anyone can even imagine. Jimmy connors 109 titles is only thing he may play for.
@Steevy84Ай бұрын
Yeah 95 crappy titles out of 109... Greater players don't play low level tournaments, they are here for lower level players normally. It's like me bragging that I went at some random elementary school and beat them all in a 1 vs 10 fight... I don't know what kind of satisfaction this could bring to one honestly.

Nole beats some relative newbies. These young men are going to gain experience, improve their skills, develope new tactics and strategies. They are already amazing and are beating players with much more experience. They may actually end up playing better tennis than the Big 3. They may not get the same results numbers wise but this does not mean they will not surpass that very exciting generation we were treated to. Let's hope.

Djokovic was at a good level but nothing extraordinary. He was very clutch vs Alcaraz who is not that good on fast hard court, the games were very close. In the final Sinner was out of gas, Djokovic was fresh, Sinner wasn't, due to the 2 matches vs Rune and Medvedev.
@orematijasevic7311Ай бұрын
I remember watching that final against Sinner. Djokovic tried so hard to break Sinner at 4:2. He could won (and he won) even without that, but he wanted so badly to end that match with same score like he ended match with Alcaraz. He wanted to those 2 kids to have same treatment from him

Hahaha, what ?? Peak Djoko ... what a funny joke .sorry man but don't think you're a real novak fan if you're saying that. anyone of the big 3 at peak can destroy them both. i'm not saying that sinner and alcaraz are not good, they are super good and have a great potential but i don't think they both peaked yet, maybe 2024 sinner has a small chance just maybe, but alcaraz still have a room to improve but like i said i don't think neither of them have reached there peak so maybe in the future if they peak, they can be at the same level as the big 3(and just having a chance to be at their lvl means you're are insanely good i mean 3 players holding 66 GS it's just insane), but man if you watched matchs specialy nadal vs djokovic both at there peak it's tennis form another world, they pushed their bodies to the absolute limit (and federer's tennis style is unique). so saying this is peak Djokovic it's just a joke to me even his forehands have not the same power as before...
