When Abdalqadir Aljazairi was imprisoned by the French, all the prison gaurds were so impressed and deeply moved by this great man that they accepted Islam - the faith of the very prisoner they were supposed to keep people away from. He needs to re owned not just by Muslims but by the entire human family. Thanks Emir Stein.

His real name was Abdelkader Ibn Muhaeideen, and was called Emir Abdelkader by Algerians (Prince Abdelkader) and one of the first founders of a modern Algerian independant. In his autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom, he compares their situation as the closest to that of the ANC in South Africa. The rebels in Algeria also had to face a government representing a sizeable white community controlling most of the indigenous population who were not white.
