you're right. I was on a public bus a while back and pretty much everyone was cheering on two kids just booting it for the bus stop in order to make it onto the bus. They were about a half block away from the stop and they didn't hesitate once. I mean, the bus driver was gonna wait for that level of commitment anyways regardless, but he couldn't exactly slow down for them. But, yeah, didn't think of that memory until you mentioned it and it fits perfectly. It's sort of a "we're gonna be exhausted at the end of this" almost amateurish give it your all kind of sprint. The video didn't really focus alot on this sort of analysis which means it was just a 'hot take'...i mean, do they style his hair specifically to give both an enhancement to the running AND to look kind of immature/amateur look? We understand as the video said that he does this style to look cool, ofc, but the video didn't spend the time that sort of concept deserved. kind of a waste really. A clip of Cruise mentioning the old actors was just teased and not followed up with a focus on this sort of commitment by the actor...it all just seemed haphazard and clunky and just flukes if they touched on a point lightly

As a former D1 Sprinter I can tell you that Tom Cruise without a doubt has the best sprinting form in Hollywood. Quick turnover, full leg extension (no drag), complete and powerful arm action, chest up, head relaxed, minimal side-to-side movement, all resulting in a decently quick speed which look just fantastic on screen.

If you watch the running more carefully you will see he doesn't run straight, his form is off, he doesn't lift his foot up high, his hands go to high, my 7yr daughter runs better but she has had training. He is short so he should be more perfect in his movements because Short people have better movement awareness and yet I'm 6ft and can see he has no learned training experience. Daniel Craig runs like a man who runs everyday at least. Like a real Agent, or FBI etc. Tom cruise always does close ups and bicep close ups but he is short so his muscle is more compact. if he actually did the training that Daniel Craig did he'd be Huge and buff. Even at his age.

Daniel Craig has a shitload of leg drag which tells me hes probably a distance runner. He doesnt get his knees up, and doesnt drive as hard. He probably runs more that cruise, but his sprint form is certainly not better.

Part of the reason I think Tom has stayed heavy on action movies is he still can. He can come back to drama or other movies with low physical requirements, but once his body says no more action or no more doing your own stunts. Then he will have to stop. He’s basically getting all the mileage he can on this part of his craft while he can. He could also enjoy this type of movie work more then the other forms.

Tom has always felt the need, the need for speed. I think he's just a really intense guy, and running is an easy way for him to express and get out his intensity. Almost all the running scenes are frivolous, but they're also memorable and mesmerizing and his trademark by now.

It's pretty incredible how his career has turned from dramatic, emotional roles with great themes/morals/conflicts, to full on high level action with crazy stakes and impact. His earlier movies are really good for the mind and the second half of his career are really good for the eyes. It's hard to name any actor comparing this range to this day. And his commitment to the roles... I can only think of the physicality and mind of Christian Bale, or DD Lewis, whose acting are never in doubt either. They act on a different level.

I think another, little-considered factor that makes Tom Cruise's run look better is that he's so short. He's light, his body is able to look like it's moving really fast and dynamically, whereas a taller person would have a harder time achieving that same ferociously rapid look, even if they were covering ground more easily with longer strides.

He was pretty funny in Risky Business and absolutely hilarious in Tropic Thunder. One of his best roles ever though was in Collateral where he was one of the most ruthless, chilling villains I’ve ever seen. Another great athlete, he was in his mid 50s when he did that. Perfect form. Gotta hand it to Cruise. Something that I really enjoy from Tom Cruise movies is that you actually see him doing the scene. It feels like every movie now days needs to cut 30 times for a 10 second fight. Thanks for pointing out that even after all the crazy physical, and production quality dedication he applies, or at least ensures for his movies, he is also a very good dramatic actor. He isn't "one of the" last action stars, he is literally the last great one. No one comes even close to his complete body of work and influence over the genre. For me, no other actors involvement guarantees I will watch, and enjoy a movie. Yes, I even liked Mummy. Sure it was somewhat of a disappointment, but it had such high expectations. Love Tom Cruise, he is also a model for short guys, being 5'7 myself. Also, shout out to Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump, even though Tom Hanks doesn't run in most of his films, that was such an iconic running role.

Tom is the Boss; so many classic iconic moments.. just one example that amazing Burj Khalifa scene will always be breathtaking. Tom gets respect for always taking the best option, never cutting corners. It shows!!
