The mistake of arjun is clear: he gives up a pawn and doesn't continue with his original plan of attack. Very weak play by a gm. Anyone can see this. He does magnus a favor in exchanging queens, which allows magnus a major advantage since after that magnus is up a pawn and the game enters the endgame phase. Arjun for some strange reason failed to calculate properly. In chess whe you initiate an attack you should carry it out till the end until it reaches fruition. Prior planning should involve an accurate assessment of the position as well as having a clear and certain vision of the end results of such plan of attack. Only then shall an attack be executed. If you are uncertain about its success, then you should not do it. Arjuna miscalculated things in the middle game, despite playing well in the opening and early part of the middle game. He put himself at a disadvantage by moving pawns too fast, attacking not magnus' king. Meanwhile magnus was attacking arjun's king or at least that was his intention. Arjun didn't played too bad, he just miscalculated the position, deciding to trade queens that led to an unfavorable end game.
