Growing up we always celebrated Valentine's Day as a family as well. So we did the same when we had our son. Although his Dad passed away from cancer at 43 yrs young when he was 4 yrs old we still celebrated and included decorating at the cemetary for his Dad each Valentine's Day. Love does not end even when we lose our loved ones. Before my first Valentine's Day without my husband I was getting together with a Mom who had a two year old son to give away some gently used clothes that our son had outgrown(she had a need and there would be no more children in my future to save his clothes for). Little did I know, that the dear gal would have a gift for me so I would have a Valentine's Day gift regardless. Kindness and showing our love through food and baking is a universal international idea. Thank you for reminding us that doing for others is so heartwarming for the giver as well as the receiver! 😊❤

@@robertlavigne6560 I had a black tie event on a Saturday where I was speaking and presenting an award. I started on Sunday. I then worked as a school nurse Monday-Friday. I would come home and continue to work. My cake pops were stick up-meaning the cake pop rested on the table. I put them in small individual bags and tied with a bow. Two people were supposed to help bag and tie on Friday as Prom was Saturday but they canceled. I stayed up until 4am to finish.

Hi Becky and the love-bug cotillion. Vegetable red dye is beet juice. don't pay premium prices for little bottles. I blend up beets with white rum or vanilla (rum again or vodka) and you get a nice red coloring for the price of small beet which freezes perfectly. Exploded treats are for the cook....I don't complain hehehe When Serving super villains you can leave the wrappers on the chocolate candies so they can say "Curses, foiled again!!!" Palmier is pronounced Pahl -Me-Ay in French. I don't think I've ever heard it in English. The double fold, half and half again wouldhave made them rounder and fatter....but both are fun To make the shortbreads rounder, cut and quarter turn, cut another quarter turn etc etc Have a great February with your loved ones to keep you warm and cozy in the cold....or the heat in the southern hemisphere, keep cool Love to all Jim Oaxaca mexico

Hi Becky. I just tried something that saved a lot of time and mess to, so I thought I would share this with you. 😀. So my crust recipe makes two crust I only need one. So while my first crust was chillin’ in the fridge since I had the flour mess I rolled out my second crust on parchment paper. (my sheets are small so I folded the center together). I floured the top a bit and rolled it up and wrapped it up in plastic wrap and placed in the freezer. I placed it out to defrost lifted it into a pie pan, fluted the edges. No mess to roll it out. I will be doing this now.

my best Valentine's Day- memory is from school. At my secondary school, we send paper heart-shaped cards to each other. One year I got a card from a boy one year older them me telling me he found me beautiful. I still have this card and I still love him for telling me most sweetly. He has no idea how much it still means to me. At the nursing home I work at I decorate for the day, building the wall of love with hearts and cute massages. Some years I write about the origin of the day and put it up at the info center for loved ones to read. We order ice cream from the kitchen and some years we make heart-shaped waffles. Colors, smells and tastes are so important when you work with the elderly with Alzheimer's.

What a sweet memory! I would remember it if a boy had told me he thought I was beautiful in secondary school, too! We never know how kind and complimentary words affect someone. I try to go out of my way to say nice things to strangers if I notice something about them. I heard someone say once that they like to give people their flowers before they die, by complimenting them. That always stuck with me and I try to do it as well.

Now that I'm an older widow, you inspired me to "up my game" and treat them for Valentine's Day, as well. One comment about the 'peanut butter cookies' with the hearts you made: as hefty as those chocolate hearts were, you might consider adding them to the cookies as soon as they're out of the oven (depending on your recipe, of course). Really enjoying your videos, Becky! 💞

I’ve been in bed holding back tears tonight. I’m a baker/cook in Louisiana- not a professional but I’ve been cooking and baking since I was 8 years old. Food network was always my favorite tv show, it’s just been a passion of mine for my whole life. I’m now 29! I’m full blooded French Cajun so you already know this is my passion. I was also hit by an 18 wheeler when I was 17, I was thrown from the car at full impact and needless to say.. I’ve had 27 surgeries now. I have severe arthritis everywhere, because everything was broken. My back, tail bone, jaw, blown arms, both ankles, my entire right leg was crushed and degloved and every ligament in my knees were torn. ACL, MCL, and meniscus. So needless to say, being in the kitchen is my passion, and yet it absolutely destroys my body. I’m in so much pain constantly, and baking days are exhausting for someone that’s healthy- let alone someone who’s been in crippling pain every day for over 4,670+ days in a row. I did Christmas goody boxes and sold them, I made a couple grand off of it because everyone loved my treats so much that they spread it all over social media and I had SO. MANY. ORDERS. 100+!! I’ve sold over 2000 cupcakes in the past, that was really the only thing I would sell. So this was the first time making goody boxes filled with 6-7 types of Christmas treats and candies, and I had NO idea it would be so successful! I was in the kitchen 10-15 hours a day, everyday, all December long. I swore I’d never to that to my body again and yet Valentine’s Day came and I decided to do it again! Not nearly as many orders, only a few dozen this time but it’s still just as painful and exhausting. I fell into bed with no grace at all, around 9 pm tonight after being in the kitchen since 10am, baking and shaping and cutting things into hearts and drizzling pink chocolate and all that stuff. I was holding back tears all day because as my luck would have it, the 2 things that flare my arthritis up the most, both arrived a few days ago. Lots of bad rainy weather and a random MASSIVE cold front came in, so my pain is 10x worse than usual. Your videos are quite literally, my favorite distraction! AND you’re doing valentines goody boxes too, which is perfect❤ Much love from Louisiana!

Hi Becky, a small tip for the palmiers (palm-ee-ayz) - try rolling the two sides towards one another to the centre instead of folding. Claire Saffitz has a good tutorial and rolling gives them that classic heart shape :)

I love the Watkins brand of no artificial dyes! Your Valentine treats look and sound so yummy! This week I am trying not to make leftovers or too much since we have a trip planned to San Antonio to see do the River Walk and to see our Daughter and husband's Invitational horse sale auction this weekend. Such cute heart cookies as all of these treats are. I will have to remember this video and look up around the 1st of Feb to make for our neighbohs. I took out Ribeye and tenderloin from our freezer for a very simple intiment dinner with loaded baked potatoe and vegie. I am making a red velvet heart cake with cream cheese frosting for the 2 of us for Valentine's. Happy Valentine's to You and your family!

I love my kitchen scale. Today I made two loaves of the Italian sesame seed bread (tried and true highly recommend )from King Arthur flour. I just use regular flour. So good. I gave one to my neighbor and I am eating ridiculous amounts of toast with tea tonight. It’s kind of a perfect evening and now here you are just to make it better.😊

Hey Becky, I’m new to your channel and I really enjoy listening to you while I’m busy in the kitchen. ✨ I hear your heartache about knowing when a chocolate (or any) cookie is done baking and the best piece of advice for me has been: When the timer goes off, gently touch the side of a cookie and when it feels fairly firm and not doughy *its done*. Has worked for me every time, soft cookies.

I have the same ovens. They both have a warm setting and the bottom oven has a proof setting. I use the proof setting often. I love the warm setting when making a large dinner to keep everything at serving temperature and it also works great for drying herbs when I don’t have enough to drag out the dehydrator. I don’t use the convection setting for cakes ,cupcakes, and cookies because the fan blows the tops right off. 😂 Happy ❤.

I always put whatever is added into the cookie dough (chocolate chips, nuts…) to the top. It helps distinguish the cookies in case of food allergies.

OOOoooo I have to do these Strawberry Palmiers! I once made Palmiers with a bunch of leftover Cranberry Tapenade I had from a party with cranberries, orange (whole ground), sweet potato, pecans, jalapeno, cilantro, and sugar. I figured, "Why not try?" I took them to the next holiday party a day later and they were all eaten before everyone got there and I made 5 dozen!! It was a surprise, but believe me, they really looked and tasted wonderful! The jalapeno and cilantro were not noticeable in flavor.
