I want to say this for the last time for the sake of clarification... The drivers of automobiles don't always look for a motorcycle because there are so many other kinds of cars, trucks, minivans, etcetera. That I include myself in the saying "we" don't think motorcycle! So the next time you are driving whatever mode of transportation do a safety check on your mirror settings. The side view mirrors are for just that the side both right and left are not focused on what is behind you. That is the sole purpose of your rear view mirror. In most cases it is mounted on the inside of the wind/shield/screen each in their respective area! When the motorcycle or other type automobile are in the view of the rear view that should be all you see. As it leaves the view of the rear of your vehicle they should appear in the respective side view mirror. Once you no longer have them in that mirror, you should see them in either your convex/ blind spot respective mirror. If you don't have your mirrors adjusted as such you too can end up doing the wrong lane change with no malicious intent!!!

A few years ago a group of us were on a trip when a pissed off couple decided that they wanted to be in our lane and motorcycles be damned, they moved into our lane and four of us couples had to get on the shoulder of the interstate to not get hit. We caught up to the couple and boxed them in and pulled them over to the shoulder to a stop all the while with weapons drawn. We were all licensed to carry concealed including wives and girl friends. The couple was arrested for DWI and possession of other fun things. You never know who might be on a bike.

He’s in California, where lane filtering is fully legal and should be expected between the two left most lanes. He wasn’t going a reckless pace. This lands pretty squarely on the driver in this instance. That said, as the rider anytime you see a gap in traffic you should be prepared for someone to make a lane change and assume it will be without checking or indicating.

lane splitting is legal in california, it is car responsibility to LOOK and make proper safe lane changes. everyone wanna blame the biker for literally doing nothing wrong. every single time you get on a freeway in SoCal you WILL see bikes splitting lanes. and if you hit one it is guaranteed your fault. i have had people with out of state plates pull in front of me and block me intentionally from splitting because they *do not know the LAW* so they lose a couple mirrors or maybe a valve stem if they endanger me
