After a 25-year wait, BMW Motorsport made a comeback to endurance racing at the 24 hours of Le Mans with the BMW M Hybrid V8. Their previous prototype, the V12 LMR, was the first-ever Le Mans car built by BMW. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the toughest race to win and BMW has only achieved that once outright at this prestigious race.

There was no LMGT1 class at LM in 99. The 2 top classes were LMGTP and LMP.
