Back then managers dealt with players, not through their agents, it's the agents that have killed it, there's no father/son relationship any more, teams used to be extended family, now the only thing a team has in common is the shirt, a shirt that USED to mean the world to a player, now it's just a functional item

I think you'll find 'greatness' is measured in achievement. On that score Clough will be in the lower reaches of a 'top 20' of all time British club managers. If it's 'character' you're referring to then that title will have been retired when he passed away.
@swanseagunner20465 жыл бұрын
@@apathyintheuk265 with clubs he achieved greatest with is unheard of back to back European cups with Nottingham Forest league champions 4 League Cups he got derby up to division 1 champions from the bottom of division 2 in 3 years these were small clubs back then the only thing i can compare it to is Leicester City winning the premier league in 2016 clough done it in the 70s 80s no money im an arsenal fan clough was the best for me Peter Taylor needs a mention aswell his no2
@apathyintheuk2655 жыл бұрын
@@swanseagunner2046 I think Peter Taylor deserves more than a "mention". I don't think it's any fluke Peter Taylor's absence coinciding with Forest's decline as far as titles were concerned. I get what you're saying about Clough - I'm old enough to remember him at his peak (Forest days) and you're right about the achievements at two unfashionable and not particularly rich clubs, add to that his unchallenged charisma - gets him elevated comfortably into the top 10 of all time greatest British club managers.

Players in the modern game are wrapped in cotton wool and bubble wrap. Managers can’t even raise their voice at players these days. Players sulk and moan, and play poorly in order to get a boss the sack if they aren’t getting their own way. Miss the characters and passion of my childhood football of the 80s/early 90s. And yes I’m a grumpy old fart, young man, now get your hands out of your pockets and tuck your shirt in! 🤪
