Bleu Orb

Күн бұрын

This is a short transcription of Charles Cornell improvising over the standard "slow boat to China" (I guess?)
Charles is one of my favorite KZbinrs and I decided to transcribe his amazing playing!
This took roughly 3 hours and I kinda tried to wrap it up quick since it's 3 am now!!
Well if you enjoyed this playthrough and would also like to purchase the sheet music.
Pdf available here!

You might notice that some chords are written like this: if it's a minor chord with an add 11 I've done m11 which is technically incorrect..but the chord symbols in musescore seemed to have been behaving quite obscure while I was putting in the symbols. Maybe I'll update and see if the issue is fixed. Also thanks for 4k+ if you guys love th content and would like to see more, let's hit 10!

I've noticed that adding parenthesis can sometimes help. Like (Db)7 instead of D(b7).

Very nice transcription, thanks for sharing! I can’t believe this only took you 3 hours, you must be really great. This would take me 3 weeks. But I don’t have perfect pitch and also have an extremely short attention span, no patience and am easily distracted, which is why I will never accomplish anything useful in life.

I’m tryna understand 0:27 lol. How does he get to the F#m9 and make it work? It sounds like a ii V in the key a halfstep above and then a fancy ii V eading to the Tritone sub for the V and then the 1. Crazy cool chords :)
@orangedetox
@orangedetox 3 жыл бұрын
The F#m9 doesn't work, it's the resolve the B then repeating it a half step down which validates the sound. But if you played the phrase leading to it and just stopped at the F#m9 without resolving it wouldn't sound ideal
@orangedetox
@orangedetox 3 жыл бұрын
He's also only a half step away on F7 the bar before so it's small move in the bass the F#7
@freshlysqueezedgaming3776
@freshlysqueezedgaming3776 3 жыл бұрын
Yea also having the final F#add9 over a bass E voice leads nicely to the E flat major chord. As long as you have good voice leading for things like that it almost always sounds cool.

A classic progression in jazz is iim7-biiidim7-iiim-vi7. Charles just changed the biiidim7 to biiim7 and then used a series of ii-vs to resolve back to Eb.

For example why this is bad, bar 43 you have written in Abmin13, when it is actually Db13#11. It’s misleading to what is actually happening and dumbs down the nuance of what is actually happening.
