My sister is an autism teacher. The first autism class she took, the professor told them, that pediatricians are failing patients because they aren’t addressing autism concerns. This is currently a problem in West Virginia. Craig is lucky that you trusted your gut and got other, professional opinions. I think a lot of parents are relieved, to hear a doctor tell them, there’s nothing to worry about but early intervention helps.

I just learned I have autism at age 28 and I just turned 29 I just got back from my whole job at wholefoods telling them that I found out I have Autism Thank you for helping me with these thoughts! Its been a lot to get through- and because you guys decided to make these videos- it has helped me get the courage to be open about my condition so others can understand me better! If you could imagine… they all just assumed I was a very mean and bad person- full of anxiety. When really I just lack the social skills to open up! Now that I am aware of my Autism I understand why I have this reaction… and now.. along with your guys’ help- I know what it looks like when you accept.. and work past daily difficulties. I always thought life was hard- now I see that I was making it hard on myself by not having a full grasp on what was going on with my brain! Im so happy words cant explain my absolute excitement and happy song dances and giggles I get when celebrating. I hope you dance and play music together as often as possible. You both have changed my life and you need to remember to celebrate! You are helping the world with every post you make- with or without Autism this world needs help understanding each other. You show us we can all be happy- even if we need to help each other once in a while. Maybe your Son can help you with things you struggle with! You should ask him! I know I have a lot to offer… I cant imagine what world changing idea he has locked away in that amazing brain. Tell him its ok to tell us! ❤❤❤ I found out its ok to tell you from him! He needs to know the same! Love you!!! AND GOD BLESS!!!!

Love seeing Craig's videos! My 2 little ones are autistic. My 3.5 yr old tries to talk and does point, push and pull things/people to communicate. He says a few words and phrases clearly but tries to speak his own language. My 2.5 yr old babbles and comes over to me or the fridge but doesn't really communicate clearly to others, I'm pretty much the only 1 who really knows what he wants. He likes when his brother chases him but he quickly gets overwhelmed by him too. Really hope they both blossom like Craig. ❤

Thank you so much for this video, Nancy. My daughter is two (soon to be three), and we are in the process of having her "diagnosed" as somewhere on the spectrum. Her pediatrician recommended interventions at her two year appointment, but I was in a bit of denial. It's so easy to fall into a pattern of daily living and care, I pushed any potential concerns to the back of my brain. My daughter is spectacular. She is loving, vibrant, imaginative, and so intelligent. After some gentle urging from her pediatrician, my daughter has started speech and occupational therapy. We have also gotten involved with AEA. I love watching Craig and your family. You helped me get over the hump of accepting help for my precious girl. I can't thank you enough. ❤️ P.S. We live very close to the Des Moines area. It's such a small world, after all.

Omigosh, the video of younger Craig is so cute. Love the throwback to the 90's. Thanks for sharing so we could see what he looked like as a little boy. You must get nostalgic sometimes, of all your kids at that age, now that they are grown. Mine are 7 and already the time has gone by so fast. It's so nice to hear that even back then you were able to get the resources you needed. And good for you for trusting that Mama instinct that told you something was a little different and that the pediatrician, no matter how well intentioned, wasn't quite correct.

Great video Nancy! This one will help a lot of new parents with children or relatives with autism. Tony (37) was diagnosed at age 4 when I was stationed back in the US again. He never talked, pulled us around by our finger and pointed till he was almost 4. No hugging and no eye contact. Any loud noise seemed to hurt his ears even to this day. Yes at age 2 and 3, he lined up all the the toy cars in the house straight. He scared us by climbing all over the place (no fear). We were the ones that were scared….haha. Tony’s memory about Disney Movies and all Cartoons, especially WB & Looney Toones etc amazes us with the dates and actors names! Craig is doing a lot better than Tony at cooking. He has 14 boxes of cereal in the pantry, that’s his cooking….haha. As I said before, you have a wonderful, caring and understanding family. It’s necessary for our family's and hard to do, but love helps us all get through the day.

You are such amazing parents.ever since I have subscribed and been watching I am so proud of you all. I grew up with a first cousin who had at that time was called mongoloid which today is Down syndrome. Back in the day children born with that were put in institutions. My aunt and uncle totally refused, they were told he could never be taught or understand anything. But growing up with Bobby we saw that he had a couple of amazing gifts. He could hear a song and sit down at a piano and play it perfectly. Later on he made the most beautiful things with wood. He was a late in life child of my aunt and uncle so when Bobby turned about 40 years old they worried about them dying and what would become of him. He was put in an adult home where he became the home’s entertainer with the piano. My aunt and uncle passed away before Bobby who passed at 56 years old. He was always very loving and I learned a lot from him. I know that Craig is autistic but I just wanted to share with you about Bobby who had a different diagnosis. Thank you for sharing with us your life and how loving you all are.

Craig learning to talk reminds me so much of my now 13 year old son. He didnt really start talkikg till 4 after 2 years of therapy, but boy when he did he sure had a lot to say. He also would just play repetitively (vs creative play) and would maybe play near kids but not really with them. If any parents are going through this there is hope! ❤ He has a long way to go but with early intervention he should be able to do anything other adults can do with minimal support. ❤ great job mama

Craig is so smart and I think you did a wonderful job as a mother. Thank you for letting people know about autism as not a lot of people talk much about it. You all have an amazing family ❤

Great video! I loved hearing about Craig's childhood and even seeing little Craig. He's only a month and a half younger than me. I was born 7/28/1992. Keep up the good work, Craig, Nancy, and Joe too!

Craig being 30 and running up to see Rugrats is my favorite part, SAME. 1992 boys 💪 Seeing how you had to deal with in 1994 with way less (and probably misinformation) ,great job mom! My nephew is non verbal at 4 years old and just started school and LOVES it, its exactly what he needed, hoping he talks when hes older.

Wonderful video. So many similarities between your experiences and ours. I sobbed like a baby when Dusty went to school at three years old. I’ll have to send an email with more info, so we can compare notes! BTW, Amazon sells a very affordable “muffin top pan” that bakes perfect egg McMuffin size eggs. I spray the pan well and bake at 350* until set. Dusty loves egg sandwiches! Thank you for sharing today. ❤️

I really enjoyed this video. I came back to watch it again. You are so well spoken and collected in your thoughts and memories. I know many will be helped by your videos, who are parents trying to navigate unknown waters with children . I really enjoyed seeing the old Video of Craig! Id love to see more! It’s fascinating! Wow! How far he has come! You didn’t know it back then though, so I know you must be happy.
