When do you let your dog off leash?

There's alot of dog owners thar would find that extreme. I don't think it's extreme. Not every dog owner looks at things through a logical lens

My dog was killed instantly when he suddenly decided to cross road, never again, my most handsome and calmest GSD died to such stupid thought I had that I have him 90% in control off leash with perfect recall. Never never never!

Exactly what I tell everyone I know who owns a dog. NEVER SAY NEVER when it comes to a dog. They’re animals! And they run on instinct, not intellect. As smart as they are. If they see or smell something they want to go and chase or get to, it does not matter how well trained you “think” your dog is, he’s still an animal. And you can never be 100% sure he will not run off! Get over Yourself’s people and protect your dog!

I made this mistake and am trying to retroactively fix it now. It's still hard I want to be able to give the freedom to be off leash in appropriate areas but then she takes another dogs ball or goes up to a stranger without asking permission and the training goes out the window.

The off lead bad behaviour dogs are off lead running across fields and hassling people because it's ok for their dogs. We have enclosed fields near me and people just let their dogs go at people and I have had so many dogs running at me and it's just not on. People wouldn't appreciate it if I let my dog off lead to hassling other people because they don't appreciate it.

E collar is a training tool. Without training, slapping tool more usually eventually create confusion and misbehavior even if you use the tool to paper over the crack on one specific behavior.

Cuz thats sick and there are more humane ways. If you feel like you have to use a shock collar then you failed at training your dog and shouldnt have one.

you shouldn’t hurt a dog, that scares them and eventually makes them more aggressive. you don’t need to “punish” them. you need to teach them.
