The catch-22 is that anyone smart enough to shut up and ask for a lawyer is smart enough to not commit this kind of crime. When I was little I was terrified of being homeless, or going to prison. @@devonwilliams2423 thats in interesting interpretation of events. Self preservation and stupidity is the only reason this went this way. Brett let them know he knew the playbook and they literally had a psychological reaction to it (defensiveness) that confirmed that he had called them correctly. He knew the room was recorded. He knew there was no reason to ask him a question if they already knew the answer. He knew they are not on his side or looking out for him. He knew they are capable of lying. He decided to move in his best interest after he saw the names of his accomplices and he knew that they would work in their own best interest having not established a usable alibi for all members involved. Them having the two other names was the deciding factor. Loose lips sink ships, Brett knew THAT. There was literally no pressure, only him drawing it out to have them show him what HE needed to decide if he was going to talk. They NEVER outsmarted him Cops solve cases that are handed to them by dumb criminals or witnesses, not through Sherlock Holmes like deductive reasoning....

I think leaving the phone on ring serves two purposes. One is obvious and it’s in case important information of any kind comes through, it that line of work timing is crucial. I strongly believe they were shocked when they heard he killed her. Obviously, the law allows them to get life but it’s a waste of 3 lives to have the state support 3 people for not committing or intending to commit murder. It’s going to cost the public millions of dollars to house and care for them for the next 50+ years. Give them 20 years each for robbery.

It's not like he accidentally shot her during a hectic hostage attempt. He repeatedly beat, raped and sodomized her before suffocating her with a plastic bag and then he want to be all "Oops I didn't mean to do it! 😢" when he heard his mother's voice. Imagine how Gail's son felt when he learnt what had been done to his mother. If this happened to my mom I'd be driven mad with grief, constantly thinking about how her final horrifying moment on this earth was spent in agony and fear, dying alone at the hands of this cretin.

@@TimothyGod the age old question, is it ok to lie to catch a bad guy. Many good arguments for both sides I agree. Problem is you give them an inch they take a mile. Which is where my comment stems from. Then you have qualified immunity which gives them the legal right to not know laws and allow them to just enforce whatever they feel that moment. Not to mention planting evidence and such. Not all but most police are scum worthless wastes or life like the criminals they go after. Never understood how someone gets off by ruining a completely random person's life....
