That's not right, he saw colour. He saw the struggle and stood beside black people and the people who raised him among black people. Saying you don't see colour, isn't the same thing as not being racist. Elvis saw the struggle and helped in the way any white man could. He stood shoulder to shoulder with his neighbours and peers. They were black ❤

@DF well well well well well well well :-) mhm ... the style of the Elvis back ground singers from 1968 to 1969 on was same style --- raunchy and souly ... listen please the 1969 super sessions of the 40 super songs in Memphis ... "but" these ladies are "white" :-) with a super souly feeling ... going into Elvis´ sound ... (the overdubes were done later ... so they did lean on their voices fitting to Elvis´ sensationalst singing of all these American studios songs back then) and the 1968 ladies were THE BLOSSOMS ... "black" ladies choire ("borrowed" from Tom Jones :-) ) .... and then in 1969 live in Vegas ... there were also in addition to the known Sweet Inspirations (in July/August 1969 also with Cissy Houston!) ... "white" male singer were included and ... MILLIE KIRKHAM (!) a long time Elvis female back vocals singer ... so "our" MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE - ELVIS PRESLEY ... influenced musicians and back ground vocalsist as well ... since ever ELVIS was on the playground! ♥

This absolutely brought tears to my eyes....people will rip him apart til the end of time, but I don't think there was a kinder, gentleman who cared for his fellow man and/or woman than Elvis. The stories are endless what he did when he saw something or someone that was not going right. He would stop and help anyone, regardless of race, creed, color, age, gender. Don't focus on his faults. We ALL have them. Focus on this sweet, kind man that strove to make people happy in song, film, or or a simple smile or handshake. I hope to meet him in heaven. Loren Kacon

I believe there are similar stories when touring the South where sometimes a hotel would ask that the Sweets stay somewhere else. Elvis' response would be something like "Well that's fine, tell us a nice place and we'll ALL go there." Sounds like an easy stance to take, but switching hotel plans for a large band in the midst of a busy tour would have been chaos. The hotels always gave in.

@@jimcowan8770 Well, jimcowan, I am glad you asked. Firstly, I am not nor will I ever be jealous of Elvis. Elvis will only ever be the great white hope for white America. Now lets get down to what I have done for others. I was conscripted to go to Vietnam for 2 years at the age of 20 to kill people I had never met, done nothing to me or me to them. Stay with me jimcowan, it gets better. I saw US soldiers cut the heads of Vietnamese people and leave them on the side of the road, I saw US soldiers turn up with a kill kill attitude and I watched them cry themselves to sleep. I sent mates home in body bags. On my last day my mate took a dump on the US flag and then wiped his ass with it. I pissed all over it. When we returned the torture never stopped, so we used heroin to ease the pain. My mate ended up crucifying himself on a needle full of heroin. I got clean and from the time I got clean I made real money. I now spend my time and my money, with NO! government assistance whatsoever helping returned soldiers adjust from another war battle conflict that your US government has asked others to help because you can't fight your own battles and when it is evident the US is in defeat, the US simply walks away. Vietnam, Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan . Wait, jimvowan there is more, it gets even better. It is not unusual for me to be in a supermarket and see a family struggling to pay for their groceries, so I gladly pay for it. That's what I have done and still do. Now jimcowan, lets get down to Elvis being such a lovely guy. You delusional Elvis fans keep going on about Elvis did so much for the black community, right? Answer me this. 1. Did Elvis ever pick up his microphone and speak of his support for civil rights? 2. Did Elvis ever walk in support of civil rights? These are one word answers, yes or no? If the answer is no, then he did nothing, if you honestly believe yes, then you believe in the invisible army too. Now lets get down to Elvis being a great guy. Did you know, Elvis Was the King of Treating Women Like Shit and Luring 14-Year-Olds into Bed as much the king of exploiting teenagers for sex and treating women like shit But while on tour, Elvis's main focus wasn't "taking care of business." Instead, it seemed like he cared more about exploiting the admiration of underage girls. In his book Elvis Presley: A Southern Life, Joel Williamson writes about Elvis's life on the road, including his time spent with teenagers. Williamson writes that while on tour, Elvis preyed on a group of three 14-year-old girls who would pillow fight, tickle, wrestle, and kiss Elvis, who was 22 at the time. Williamson also details an incident in which Elvis slept with a fan while he was in Louisiana performing weekly on the Louisiana Hayride show in 1954. The condom broke while the act. Not knowing what to do, Elvis asked his friends on tour how he should proceed, but they had no helpful advice. In the morning, Elvis informed his friends that he brought the girl to the emergency room and left her there to get a douche. (To perform a vaginal douche, a mixture of water and other ingredients is placed in a bottle or bag. The mixture is then sprayed or squirted upward into the vagina. The fluids then wash out of the vagina.) One hell of a guy, wouldn't you say? All the while, he was obsessively calling his 15-year-old girlfriend, Dixie Locke, whom he loved to dress in clothes of his own choosing. Eventually, Elvis found himself a 14-year-old he could get to commit to him. The King's first and only wife, Priscilla, met him in 1959 while 24-year-old Elvis was serving in the military in Germany. The two dated for six months before he returned to the US. In her memoir Elvis and Me, Priscilla writes that Elvis did everything short of penetrative sex ( that means she gave him blow jobs and wanked his cock) with her the first night they spent together and until they were married. "It was as if Priscilla's virginity was another thing that Elvis strangely and sorely needed to maintain." One hell of a nice guy. Oh and don't come back with the astrodome incident, it is getting boring. And don't thank me for my services.

Where are the woke people now? For ever one person in the modern age that claimed Elvis was a racist and "stole the black man's sound" there are 200 stories like this that make them out to be fools. Years ago I met BB King, who was a wonderful person. I asked him, off the record, about Elvis, the Memphis sound and the race issue. He became very irritated that anyone would say that about Elvis. BB told me that 80% of the performers on Beale St had no intention of "getting big", they were just trying to have fun and make a few extra dollars. Everyone had their own style, there was no one "Memphis Sound" that everyone speaks of. BB Said "Elvis didn't sound like anyone then, and he didn't sound like anyone later either. His roots were in Gospel and Country, before he came to Memphis, not R&B. He blended styles, he didn't steal anything". After he made it big, Elvis told numerous record labels about the other talented artists in Memphis, and he helped dozens of them with their careers. Without Elvis, there would have been no MoTown, no British Invasion and no national acceptance of Rock -n- Roll. Without Elvis hundreds of black artists would have died poor and unknown. Where would the world have been without Elvis to help people others along and change the attitudes of music? Indeed - where are all of you woke people now?

Elvis was only 19, singing on the Louisiana Hayride beginning in ‘54, combining music he felt in his bones with what was reverberating all around him. He had as much right to sing what he liked as any black person. And what’s interesting, he’s influenced far more who followed him, than ever influenced him. Like BB King said, “the music was out there, everyone, including me, borrows a little from everyone else.” He also said, “Elvis had it all, rhythm, the look, he could play, he had the voice, everything.” Presley sang in all genres. With over 140 gold records, numerous cover songs in concerts there’s a treasure trove of material he mastered. Elvis is the one.

That were less fortunate then him.. Whether disabled, or just misfortune. Because of his will, to give, & help. I think a lot of people, took advantage of kindness. Miss thinking he was weak. He wasn't weak, he was a kind Soul. But he also knew he had became a dollar sign; for does around him.

I had the absolute pleasure of seeing the Sweet Inspirations perform at an Elvis ‘performance’ in Melbourne Australia - in the 1990s. At the end of the show, I raced forward to the stage just as the last Sweet Inspiration was due to step off… she saw me trying to get her attention - a security guard tried to pull me away - ‘she’ (one of the SI) shoved the guard out of the way - and she stopped to say hello to me. I told her that I’d always thought the SI were beautiful singers and beautiful women - and that from a very early age, I had wanted to kiss one of the Sweet Inspirations… The response she gave me was priceless! “Honey - aaahm old - I can’t bend over to kiss you from up here! If YOU wanna kiss me - you’re gonnna have to come on stage!” And with that, she reached for my hand - and with all her strength, YANKED me up on stage - I kissed her on the cheek - and she gave me the warmest hug you could possibly imagine. The world would be such a nice place if people could just be nice to one another. ❤

A view from the recliner. Elvis' Girls The Sweet Inspirations. They were great as well as everyone that backed Elvis up. What a time to hear this music. I was a teenager then and I just turned 80 July 7th. I heard all the great ones, Elvis was the best and he got better with age.

Elvis was raised in Mississippi and Memphis Tennessee amongst the black community which he considered to be his family and where he grew a fondness for black gospel music and blues. Thus making him the first real prominent mainstream black rhythm & blues singer who was white. Thus always making him controversial from the very start. So this is just who he was to the bone, and that incident wasn't the first time he faced bigotry.

He drove that lesson home for that girl! 😁 I grew up listening to Elvis. I watched his movies and tv specials because my Mom is still a diehard fan who made me one too. ❤ My parents treated everyone equally and I'm so happy that Elvis did the same. He appreciated the Sweet Inspirations for their talent and beauty and obviously loved and respected them too. That's a real MAN. 😍

I am so glad to see that because of the movie, a lot of young people (and aspecially young colored people) are now watching Elvis documentaries and interviews and sharing it on KZbin. I give my tumbs up and support every time. Still there is so much resentment towards Elvis, aspecially among the middelaged population. I see it in the comments on music pages on facebook, and at KZbin all the time. I sometimes post links to the short documentaries "Elvis and the black community- that Ecco will never die" and "Remembering Elvis" when I see comments about Elvis stealing music from black artists.
