About me:
I've been making short films for 20 years, starting at age 11. I directed my first feature film, Bad is Bad, in 2010. Made for only $6,000, the film went on to reach over 7 million views and garner critical acclaim. More recently, my short film, Will "The Machine", screened and won awards at film festivals around the world. Released online in 2019, it reached over 1 million views in just a month. I also work as a video editor, cutting ads for clients such as Apple, Netflix, and Beats by Dre.

Hi Kent!! In the small chance that you read this comment I just wanted to say thank you for all your videos. As an aspiring filmmaker in High School, your videos fuel my passion for cinema. I actually recently created a short animated film with my friend Justin Dawson which we posted on this channel and made into various festivals, and just got it on Letterboxd on Christmas (woohoo!) but we made it with zero budget and zero resources (literally all drawing and Premiere Pro). I was wondering what you would recommend our next steps are in our journey, for example what equipment should we buy, how do we balance filmmaking with school and work etc. I haven't heard from any of the other channels yet but I thought, oh well I keep giving it a shot. Anyways, thank you so much!

I set a goal for myself this year to put out at least one short film. I’ve always wanted to be a filmmaker and for one reason or another have made excuse after excuse as to why I couldn’t do it now. I found your channel 2 days ago and within those two days, I’ve completed the first draft of my first short film. Your channel is incredible. I couldn’t have done that without your breakdowns. So thank you!

I'm in film school and I think you should upscale your footage before uploading to KZbin to retain the detain such as the grain you mentioned.. for example 4k file will be compressed way less if its upscaled as a 6k file the system will retain more image data.. upscaling 1080p to 4k has yielded amazing results

Always dreamed of becoming a film director, creating a narrative and capture the attention of the audience… but i have no knowledge about Cameras and editing. Great video as always, Kent.! Quick question that’s off-topic. I know you’re an Adobe Premiere pro guy and I know you have recommended it on especially if we’re looking to take our video editing seriously/full-time, also, I remember you mentioning that a lot of the jobs you get require you to use premiere Pro, However, I’ve been seeing a lot of videos saying that Adobe Premiere has a lot of errors and trouble starting the software etc. I wanted to know if this has been your experience at all and if so, what was your work around? as I am a Final Cut Pro guy at the moment, I’m looking to switch over to the most compatible software for clients however, I don’t want to switch over to a faulty software with tons of bugs just to have to switch again for those same bugs. Any advice brother ?
@StandardStoryCo
@StandardStoryCo Жыл бұрын
Literally all of my clients are embedded in the Premiere ecosystem. But I def see Resolve taking more of their market share in the years to come. From what I've seen Resolve is more stable, but for now, if you're trying to do client work in the advertising/branded content space for example you just gotta learn to work with Premiere's bugs, troubleshoot on google, do backups, save frequently, use a proxy workflow if possible, etc. Premiere isn't perfect by any means but also isn't as bad as people make it out to be online IMO.
