My mom had the 84 T-bird Elan, which was a 5.0 Mustang GT dressed up in a T-bird body. That thing could smoke most of them lil imports.

Early square headlight and the 2.3 is a tank of a motor.. I hear they are very tough.. so with that engine and preference of the older style.. I'd take an early one for sure, it would be more of a sleeper if built right. That's what'd I do. The boxier 80s cars are looking better as they age (some not all) 😉

Over the past week I’ve seen 3-4 old W123 class Mercedes on the road. I haven’t seen an ‘80’s T-Bird or Cougar on the road in years.

My buddy Barry had a used 84' Thunderbird with the 2.3 turbo. He would race it up and down his street until he finally got it on the road a year later! He had it on the road less than a week, lost control went over a cornered medium totaled the car, and hurt his neck... Bum Deal Barry. I felt bad for him.. The man waited a year till he had his license to drive the thing and he had it for less than a week..

I love the Turbo and Super Coupes and their Mercury counterparts the cougar XR-7's. The Lincoln Mark series has always been a handsome and good performing car for their periods so if I had to choose between them, I would probably go with a Cougar XR-7 87/88 Aero flavor with a T-5 please.

With the full Mustang GT V-8 that car had a great deal of potential and performance/comfort imo. It that could have been technologically available with a true high end SVO Turbo-4 it would have been a true wow mobile... or for the time, something similar to the Grand National with that amazing turbo V-6... The Mark VII was always a dream car for me...never happened though... V8 and style/comfort on steroids.

I liked the Lincoln Mark II LSC better..I buy/sell cars since a teen in the 80's and owned a 88 Lincoln Mark II for awhile..Not even a Ford guy but liked that car,so I bought one!

Ive owned multiple Turbocoupes. Most of the 87-88s I owned came cheap with hurt motors or automatic transmissions. 302s and 5 speeds were swapped in. The 86 Turbocoupe was the most reliable with the T5. It ate up 4 eye GT's. Cheapest one you can find now thats showroom condition is 40k

I had an '85 GT. Never once got beat by a Turbocoupe bruh. The 'Bird weighed several hundred lbs. more in 1986 than the Mustang and ran mid 8's in the 0-60. No 16 second 'Bird "ate" Mustangs back then.

Great vid! And, I totally agree! I'd take an LSC over any t-bird in a heartbeat. Not even close. I owned a '97 t-bird with the 4.6 and it was a great daily driver car that ultimately got traded in for a used 01 Bullitt Mustang #246). I actually still have a full 4 wheel set of gorgeous factory 16" LSC wheels and lug nuts that I currently use 2 of on a home built utility trailer that I built 40 years ago!

I actually like the super coops a little better, although you couldn't get the t5 with the super cubes, but they still had the limited slip diff a decent overdrive automatic transmission and s*** tons of torque coming out the wazoo

When we were kids a friend stole a T-Bird Turbo Coupe. It was a respectable car.

I hate people who steal cars...A really nice, friendly mechanic I worked with in the late 1980's when I was 18 someone stole his car.He chased him down and he killed him/beat him to a pulp.. He was in his other car after a night of drag racing at the track roughly 11pm (67 Plymouth GTX 426 Hemi 680 hp) and seen his sweet, like new original and beautiful 1971 Dodge Super Bee drive by so he chased it down and got the guy, beat him up to a pulp and the guy died.. We (myself and the guys brother) never once told anyone as we all agreed with the guy and truthfully the guy was the friendliest guy but he was 6'6 and muscle and x military and I knew he had a mean streak(he cleaned up in bar fights, never once did he start a fight) I was scared to be honest....I can say it now as he passed away last year at 77 years old..and in 1996 I bought his sweet 1971 Dodge Super Bee factory orange and 440 6 pack, truly a beautiful car! I still own it today..No, he never killed him in the car, he drug him out then called his brother to pick up his GTX he left 1 block away, what a rush to see the guy after this happened! I only found out as I was his neighbor and walked over there that night and they were talking and well, they persuaded me not to speak of it. Turns out the thief was a drug addict, car thief, stole from stores and molested 3 young kids all under 7 years old so no loss really.

I'd want the Toyota Supra hands down, that car won the best all-around car in an intensive on-road and off-road competition. Against many other cares for the time, different styles of cars, trucks, station wagons, etc., etc....

Find a Turbo Coupé with a blown engine, drop in a Ford Racing 2.3 for a later Mustang (310 hp @ 5,500 rpm, 350 lb.-ft. torque @ 3,000 rpm (with 93 octane fuel) )... Keeps the handling aspect, adds 120 hp. Motor is around US$ 5,200.00...

@@Cadillac61 I'm pretty sure a lot of red blooded Americans turned them in for a new Prius. In CA these Thunderchickens all but vanished by the mid/late 90's. Oddly enough BMW E30's could still be found all over the place. I wonder why? The Obama story you're selling is a hard cope. The program was led under Ray LaHood (R)
