Fortunately I got a chance to go onsite to work on a project in South Africa.... it was literally whole new experience for me, same as you explain how people are welcoming n warm this shocked me too.... everyone is like greeting you and asking about your day, in India we never really do that... n ya seriously they are not in hurry at all they take their time n enjoy life... don't know why Indians are always in a hurry everywhere.... experienced this while getting off a flight. ✈️😃 Grab every chance you get to explore new country. 🙏 🇿🇦

Make more such videos. This was really informative and helpful
@chb2551 Жыл бұрын
I'm late to the video, however, I wanted to help you understand something better that you mentioned in the video. At 7:32 you started talking about crossing the street as a pedestrian (someone who is walking). It wasn't just kindness that had people stopping for you, it's the law. In the U.S. the pedestrian always has the "right-of-way" so that whenever you see a pedestrian standing at a street corner waiting to cross, drivers legally have the responsibility to stop so that person can cross. If you don't stop, you can possibly get a ticket (a driving infraction that causes you to pay a fine). The only time that a pedestrian doesn't have the right-of-way, at least here in Washington State, is when that person is crossing the street where there isn't a corner where 2 streets meet. In that situation, if a person crosses the street and causes an interruption in the flow of traffic, it's called "Jay-walking" and you can be ticketed (again charging you a fine for your infraction). Yes, often times people will stop when they see someone trying to cross a street anyways, as a courtesy to the pedestrian. However, it's also a legal requirement for drivers. TL,DR: In most places in the U.S., if not all places, the person walking has the right to proceed across a street at an intersection of 2 or more streets or at a "crosswalk" (what I believe you were calling a zebra crossing, probably because of the white stripes) while vehicles are legally required to wait. Called "the Right-of-Way." I hope this helps you to understand the reason for them stopping, better. At 11:00 you may be talking about 1 of 3 things. 1st there's a custom here called a "Potluck." That is where you have group of people who come to together to share a meal. When they come together, each family or person who's attending it brings with them at least 1 dish to be shared among everyone attending. The combination of all of those dishes or drinks, makes up a full meal for the whole group. The 2nd possibility of what you were encountering is called a "Spread." This is where friends may come together, bringing ingredients with them. Then they proceed to make the meal with the ingredients that each one attending brought. So, with a Potluck, each one brings a completed dish. With a Spread, each one brings an ingredient and the dishes are made together. Though it may be a 3rd thing, that is quite common here, where they were just taking turns making meals. 1 day one person would make a meal. The next day another person would make one, and so-on. That is often done so that one person/family doesn't have the burden of cooking for the group every day. I'm not sure which you experienced, from the short description you gave.
