Hi @allthingsdnd ,how is the DND horror stories only faring? I really miss the fun wholesome and downright interesting tales as opposed to the toxicity and sadness of the horror stories.

After listening to this story I was expecting some cringe moments where the bard, who is usually support for the group, to be on a rampage. However, it turned into a comedy session involving the barbarian which, after listening to the story, will be called two and a half brain cells lmao.

Honestly, if I was going to make a character that takes multiple craps per session, and the DM sent bounty hunters that followed the trail, I'd be into it. Some people don't know how to accept consequences for their goofy time.

Had a new player, brand new to dnd on our campaign to commandeer a flying ship. He (5 bear barbarian, 8 moon druid) wildshaped into a giant eagle to reach the ship, but decided to cancel it so he can go through the cannon port instead of landing on the deck. He failed his dex save, and landed onto the cannon legs first. Failed his con save to hit his head smack up against a pile of cannon balls. Failed his stealth check and alerted the artillery unit to his position. So he decided to cast fire wall to protect himself. Failed his perception check to see where the gun powder was stored, igniting 15 kegs of gunpowder. The dm gave him a mercy to use his bonus action to rage and lesson some of the damage. Blew a hole in the side of the ship, launching the cannon balls in random direction that hit 2 other ships, and launched himself out of the hull falling at free fall speed. Luckily he wild shaped again into an eagle to save from fall damage because he had 3 hit points left after the ordeal. So that is the story of how one fumbling character some how fail succeed into destroying 3 air battleships in 2 turns during our war campaign.

Oh my gosh! That last story with the Barbarian 🤣🤣🤣 I can picture it in my head and I burst out laughing 🤣 I have similar situations in the game I run and I always make it funny, but show the consequences and makes them think twice about it. Sometimes, they still try it, other times, they choose against doing a stupid move. So far, the Bard ended up naked in front of a Boss, another time the Ranger Cleric basically splashing one of the party members with corpse remains trying to lure the wolves because she crit failed. It didn't hurt, but the wolves knew exactly who to chow down on 🤣

I was in a group pre COVID that ran one-shots exclusively. All in combat social rolls, like seduction, were done on the “hostile” chart. This was preemptively done for the bards. Our DM knew the group well.

it's a great monster, im actualy using one in an uppcomming adventure where the dragon has designed a dungeon filled with slapstick traps only to make a fool out of adventurers, the dragon itself is also in controll of a nearby town where everyone is in on the joke, beacuse if anyone where to spoil the dragons fun it would eat them up. in short, he is a terrible DM who only wants to beat and humiliate the players ;)

funny enough i am making plans for a Fun-geon where a Bar-maid was also an important figure to a big Dungeon along side a few other being, included some homebrew Hags who are also in charge of the city's well being (not evil,, but sometime morally dubious) Fungeon as amagical effect where all attacks are non-lethal for all. BarMaid is a Ratfolk (she's a Mouse and really cute and bubbly) and love to make silly jokes and actions, like having a dish full of food and drink on her head and says: It's all on... THE MOUSE (she is actually a pink dragon in a new form) however.. something happens to the Fungeon and someone was killed inside. the hags wanted to keep it undet wraps and have someone check it out. Bar Maid is worried and begs heroes to help fix whats going on. So basically the FunGeon's gimmick is that: all of your attacks are non-lethal, but the thing inside... not so much and you need to find out why is the fungeon now lethal. there are 3 ways to beat it. one of which involves a secret boss when exploring to find a Homebrew Monster inspired by the Hell's House/Armstrong from Final Fantasy

i literally had to stop watching the video when it got to the part about "D" chopping off his own hands, as I was starring to laugh to hard. I'm currently still in the hospital recovering from surgery I had a few days ago, and everytime I tried to continue waching, I'd start laughing, which led to a lot of pain on my part. Even thought I was going to pop some stitches...I just couldn't continue, as the laughter and pain cycle would return, even thought I might be related to "D" everytime I tried to continue. Finally gave up the ghost, and will finish watching once I'm healed. That story was perfect, and just what I needed, thanks

One game I played in, we were still in early levels and exploring a cave dungeon. We had a kid you'd call a "button pusher". The group encounters a cave bear sleeping. Kid insists on going up and looking under the bear for treasure, while the rest of us sneak around or don't want to go in. DM asks if he's sure. Long story short our button pusher had to roll up a new character a few minutes later. Moral of the story, bears are bad news, so don't poke the sleeping bear when you're only 2nd level.

Final story was overbord. Any healing should have been fine. If a potion or spell can heal a warhammer to the head, it should be able to heal a hand. Yes he was stupid, but this seemed to be overboard.

Had a friend once, play a paladin in 3.0 DnD. Grabbed a creature, flew into the air, and had our wizard fireball him. He had resistance to fire, but failed miserably to take the damage, as he was intending to. A new character was promptly made. In a another game 5E, I was playing a changeling rogue. I was sneaking down a dragon cult hallway. Party encounters 2 cultists, and 2 young white dragons. 4 of the 8 players had fireball, but only 1 was an evocation caster. I fell to 1 hp after all the fireballs. This was only the first round of combat. I promptly made an exit out of the hallway, and let the party continue their fire fight.

This was years ago, think 2018-2019. Group was taking a break, so a couple friends and myself decided to run a one-shot set in the campaign we were regularly playing as a form of "team building". Well, after a while, myself and the other player were more than convinced the dungeon we were in was actually a dream, but the DM was adamant that it wasn't. Me being me, I proposed that if this was indeed a dream, I could change one thing that would confirm my suspicions. DM made me roll, asking what I wanted to do. I asked to make a pie materialize in front of me. Rolled a nat 20, and instantly the most delicious cherry pie materialized, which my character and the other character enjoyed. At the end of the session, our characters woke up, and my character found crumbs of the pie he ate in the dream on his shirt. That story always makes me smile.

One I always come back to. There are two important party members in this story, myself, a human saint bard, and the DM's brother, a human homebrewed engineer class. I was negotiating with this bronze dragon, when the engineer decides, in his own words, "He looks hunger." The engineer threw a chicken bone at the dragon. The dragon let out a bolt of lightening breath, and instantly killed our engineer. We went right back to negotiating. I managed to get the dragon flight to leave the city without doing any more damage.

There's comic relief and there's chaotic stupid. I think punishing barbarian for the rubble fiasco was a bit cruel, but that's consequences for you. I DM'd a bunch of misfits going for the obviously evil tower in the distance and they made a stop at one of the villages. They walked into a tavern and were greeted by an italian goblin chef. After a small talk and refference to another campaign, The dwarf druid made a critical comment about the food. This insulted the chef who in response insulted his dwarven heritage. This resulted in the druid decking the goblin... and pissing off everyone in the tavern. Cut to the other members who decided to leave early, knowing how it will go. The next thing they see is benny hill-style chase of dwarven druid, by the village mob. He was chased into the woods and ended up capture by the goblins, which made for a perfect segway, as this was their next job.

Don't you hate it when the players roll BEFORE telling you what they're even trying to do? If it's impossible, you can say, "No," to a roll, but if they roll first... Sometimes, you just have to let them fail spectacularly, instead of just simply failing.

After listening to this I wanna comment that the fact that the mercenaries found them due to poopoos is hilarious ( however the captivity thing kinda not so good) Also the fact that the barbarian got punished so hard, i see it as not so much fan. Also even with an offhand it should not be too difficult to chop off a hand using something as a greatsword....

I feel like that last GM was just a chode that punished someone for slowing the game down to try something admittedly stupid. Then he let him hack his self up after the party came up with a creative solution as well again just sounds like bad GMing to me.

i don't get why GM's allow this kind of play, it's just horribly badly play and the GM should just say "emm nooo. your characters intelligent is more than 6 so Nooo you don't do something so stupid and suicidal"... the GM's job is to make sure everyone including players as well as npc's follows the rules of the world which is set up ^^ ... also that charm got like a million minus to that dice throw, even if he did 5 nat 20 in a row he got Zero chance to "seduce" someone mid fight, especially someone with no natural interest..

Ehh... that last story bothers me. Sure the player was being a bit dumb and having his character make idiotic choices. But the DM could have easily cut a not-too-bright or confused, anxious player some slack rather than hardlining like that. This might be a "stupid player' story, sure, but even more so a bad DM story as well.
