Yeah, after 5 years at this house, I finally feel that I'm starting to get ahead a little bit. Finally got the wood sheds to keep everything dry. It's coming along. I don't envy you moving and being behind. I'd help you if I could! Thanks for watching!

I keep seeing where you are suposed to season the wood for over a year. I start cutting the end of May and start burning it about the end of October and it is down in the low teens by then, the wood I had left over from last year ( I will be burning that first ) is below ten to 12 percent. The last tree I cut this year was a big Elm my nephew wanted to get rid of ( after cutting that I tolf him we would try to avoid Elms from now on ) very large tree and very hard to split and it holds a lot of water, but it should dry out by next year, not great for firewood , but you take what you can get when it is free. Mosy of the trees I cut at his place is Cherry trees. Almost 75 years old and still work by myself, cut 7 cords a season, split them with my little 6 1/2 ton electric splitter , and cut them with my 16" chainsaw. And plan on doing it for a few more years anyways.

Yes, one year of seasoning is good. Two years is better. I'm shooting for seasoning all my wood for 2-3 years. And I always take any free wood I can get. When seasoned properly, it all makes good heat. That's great you can still cut and split wood at 75. I hope I'm in that good of shape and your age. Thanks for watching!

@@NorthForkHollow It is nice to have enough room to store several years worth of wood. I have room for about 7 cords so it can't sit for years and years, and years waiting to be used. Start cutting in May and finish the middle of August so it gets about5 months to dry in the summer heat. At the end of the winter I look at my wood pile and think ( all that wood went through that little stove and was reduces to a small pile of ash, and I had to carry it all into the house ) LOL Have a great day and stay well.

@@bb1040 I've thought about the same thing how much wood gets reduced to a small pile ash. Simply amazing.

The tops and limbs on standing dead tree is definitely drier than the butt, the larger the diameter and closer to the center the wetter it is. Standing dead/barkless will still dry faster than green wood.

Yes, the tops are drier, and barkless wood will dry fast. But from what I'm seeing, even 2-3 months is not enough time for wood to be ideal for burning. I'm going to have to give it another 2 months or so to be even acceptable. Thanks for watching.
