Call me crazy but I WOULD NEVER let the snow pile up so deep.

I can’t tell if it’s have any ballast in the body or not, can’t see over the side. If you leave sand in the body, it will absorb rain water & rust the body out. Large concrete blocks would help. Was that rig used by a municipality? I’m surprised it has no wing plow on the right side. Good luck!!!

Elvis is just a hunk-a-hunk-a burning love. Easy to arm chair quarter back. My observation, “How can I help.” Re chains, follow the old firefighter motto “prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

Nice truck! 4x4 too! Plow with the storm, tho. If you can. Chains and ballast are very helpful, for sure! Love that truck, total beast!

it looks like you have gravel driveway and or the area in front of garages. When the snow melts, are you left with mud everywhere and a pile of gravel that needs spread out again?

Plowing is a very humiliating experience. Everyone is an expert. Except the guys who have done it. Prep prep prep. Start earlier. It makes it so much easier in the end. Tons of respect for you and the truck. Have extra lines on the floor boards along with tools and hydro. Paint the plow, the snow will cast off better.

You could use tire chains (I spoke to soon, you did), those tire socks work well to. I know a recovery guy locally that uses them on his personal plow truck. On his commercial truck he has auto chains. The auto chains are to expensive for most normal people. I have also seen someone throw a thick canvas liner in the bed of his dump truck and he will fill it half way with water, once it freezes you have plenty of weight without worrying about rocks falling out of the back.

I love the hum of the granny gears in those old trucks

Hey, great vid. Just some friendly advice, working with many vehicles for over 40 years, try a fresh carb rebuild, a decent tuneup, and some fresh gas with stabilizer. It looks and sounds like it isn't running well, or on all cylinders. You are plowing with about 60% to 70% of engine power. That thing should be able to push a mountain if it is running good. I agree with the chains for that much snow. Good Luck my friend! Keep the old truck going! :-)

Great video! Thank you for taking the time to show us! I love snow and I love getting snowed in! As long as you have food and alcohol that is!!! I would like to make a suggestion in the most positive way. Take your dump truck to a local facility that sells sand and load that dump bed up with sand. Then get a tarp to cover the bed to keep that sand dry. With sand in the bed for weight and the tire chains you will be in heaven! Also you can spread a little sand onto the driveway once you get the snow plowed off!

Wish I could find a truck like that, they are all rusted out in Eastern Canada. A set of chains and a few tons of crush stone on, you could dump and spread with a tail gate chain. Non stoppable.

Great to see a dad and his kids bonding like that but please consider safety at least for the boys. The little one with no shoes on and neither with eye protection. Very useful tool though.
