When Kargil war story made PM Modi and Army Chief emotional

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended Kargil Vijay Diwas memorial event at Indira Gandhi Indoor (IGI) Stadium in New Delhi. Indian Army celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Kargil War to rekindle the pride and valour of the soldiers who took part in Operation Vijay. Lance Naik Bachan Singh's son Lieutenant Hitesh Kumar, who joined his father's battalion in 2018, and the martyred officer's wife, were invited on stage to pay tribute to the Kargil war hero. As mother-son duo walked on stage, Singh's wife Smt Kamesh Bala could not hold back her tears and her son stood in strong support with her. PM Narendra Modi, Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat along with the public got emotional on seeing the duo. Lieutenant Hitesh Kumar's father, Lance Naik Bachan Singh of the 2nd Battallion of Rajputana Rifles, died fighting in Tololing on June 12, 1999. Though Hitesh was only six years old then, he decided to join the Army after his father's death.

As a son of army man who served for this country for more than 30 yrs, I am proud of you dad. What we often do not see is the struggles of military persons family. As a kid, I studied in 13 schools in span of 12 years. Some schools were good and some did not even have roofs or teachers. Every 1.5-2 years you had move house, schools, new friends. There were years when your dad would get posted to remote areas - no phone/ no news for weeks. We would wait eagerly to hear from him- and praying everything is okay.. It’s not easy for family members. I want to salute the families of these army men too.
