So very sorry about illness among your loved ones. Doesn’t life twist and turn. The decision to sell Ran Il was maybe to be. Your decision to remain near family and to build your own boat is a golden opportunity. Also and importantly, Vera will know her family and will establish where home is no matter where she roams as she is older. Nice to have that anchor. Looking6 forward to the videos of the build, probably even more than cruising. Wishing you goodness in this new adventure.

I watched the amount of work Doug Jackson at SV Seeker put into building his boat over a decade. He managed to recruit a small army to come down to Tusla, Oklahoma to build it. Maybe you should try and find someone to make the most critical welds on the bow and the keel.

You and I have much in common, but I’m an American, not Swedish. 1) I bought my first Volvo in 1971 and drove only Volvos until 2015. 2) In 1968 I bought an Irwin 31 foot fiberglass sloop and named her “Beau Monde” I paid $15,000 for her and sold her in 1975 for $5,000. I used her mostly for weekending in the Atlantic Ocean at Atlantic City, New Jersey. I loved the sailing life, almost as much as you do. And I sailed as crew from Maryland to Bermuda in 1975. I'm 91 years old now and I've seen every one of your videos. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to relive the happiest time of my life. I'll follow your videos as long as I can. 25 years ago, we sailed up and down the coast of California to Mexico twice, raced the transpac, Newport to Ensenada both twice and chartered in the Med and Caribbean and lived aboard for several years with our toddler and sheep dog - such an awesome time. Then school localized us into the reality that education is only somewhat transportable and then kid sports. So we renovated a home then built a home on 5 acres planted an olive orchard harvested olives for oil and had a great time with the kid. Did the same with our home in France but did vines instead again great time - now. life moves on an we are back in boating for the last five years all over again. So my suggestion do the farm enjoy it to the max kids grow up as fast as you grow old enjoy. Then look for a mistress - she'll be waiting.

It will be fun to watch another boat being built, I've been enjoying sailing magic carpet and found the building process is interesting to watch. I had a private laugh as you were talking about the issues getting the boat OUT of the barn. My grandfather- morfar- used to build wooden boats as a hobby. They were smallish, a style called here a 'run around' as it was a smallish wooden motor boat for running around puget sound on day trips. A friend asked for one slightly bigger than normal, so he built it then they found they couldn't get it out of the building! They had to take the doors off and widen the opening then FIX the opening back again. Took them several days and grandpa swore he'd never do it again! Grandma complained until they sold the house how that side of the garage always leaked. Thanks for making me laugh again at that old story!

Another way forward for your project is to buy an empty hull or hull and possibly deck, You could buy a production hull (say: X-Yachts) or contract a boat yard to build only the hull to your design. This could save you a lot of time and give you only the cabinets - your expertise - to do. Also you do not need to put together all the tools and equipment to build the hull - fiberglass, trestles, vacuum bag etc

The news about your build is exciting! finding the right place to build can be challenging. I built most of the structure for ours in a home made tent, which throughout the process I had to keep adding tarps, and as the boat grew in length and height I had to raise the tent 3 separate times before finally dismantling it. I also started out under a large walnut tree, which did not allow for rigging the masts so I had to move it to finish. SO what I am trying to say is be careful when choosing your build site, it is easy to underestimate what you will need.
