I love Anna Cramling, she’s so wholesome and cheerful. When she plays trash talkers she joins in the trash talk without ever being mean. She puts up her losses online just as often as her wins. She’s great at explaining chess too. Anna knew she’d loose against Magnus here but went in hard and did her best, and Magnus realised she had some skills, enough for him to enjoy beating her. He granted her a second game, and both enjoyed Anna trying her best against him again.

So how many ever get a chance to play the guy? If he plays a couple of unique individuals per day & never plays the same person twice in the same year, that’s less than 0.00001% of the world’s population - or just stick with a global demographic of chess players. It’s still a rare opportunity. Here’s to hoping she enjoyed it, & I’ll look forward to the day she beats him like Alexandra Botez did.

What she really missed is that she can indeed play Nxd5. If White plays Bxb8 he has lifted the guard on c1 so Black can play Rxc1+. This left her a pawn behind and was the start of the rot - before that she had a pretty even position.
@Chunda8 Жыл бұрын
OK a couple of things: 1. Magnus has held World #1 for a long time, a little over 10 years, but not as long as Kasparov or Emanuel Lasker, so no, not "like no other". Like two others. Kasparov was World #1 for about 20 years, Lasker for 27 years. 2. To get Women Fide Master, the Elo requirement is 2100. Carlsen is usually about 2882 OTB. So no, Anna's not in contention for anything vs. any Super GM, and has no prayer of beating him.
@pputnam100 Жыл бұрын
I'm with you on most of this but one thing- Magnus became #1 in the world in July 2011, so next July it'll be 13 years #1 in the world. And c'mon Lasker died in 1920, and played in a chess world outrageously less competitive and strong, so the only real competitor is Kasparov as you point out, but I think it safe to say Garry is the greatest of the pre-engine chess world, and Magnus the greatest of the post-engine chess world
