Not just grown men. M-Lopunny is like a hardened serial killer and international war criminal known for having singlehandedly deleted at least 3 entire towns off of the face of Earth. That thing was even a bit much for OU. If Gen 6 had lasted a bit longer after M-Sableye got banned, M-Lopunny probably would've gotten the boot too. Greninja got banned for less.

@@Skeloperch Mega Lopunny? Like, it's good but not ban worthy in gen 6. If there were one mega I could see having a legit argument in favor of a ban that would be Metagross as M-Metagross + Keldeo is a stupid combination that put you on the back foot very strongly once you are "in the loop", especially if spikes are up (oh no, Metagross is in, better switch in my Mega Scizor to check it. Okay now I HAVE to Roost or I won't be able to safely do it again next time ..... oh no, Keldeo came in for free on my Roost and now I have to find an answer to it ......) I don't think ORAS OU needs new bans, it's good as is, but if there were to be bans, Lopunny wouldn't be my first choice

From what I remember this was before smogon started tiering megas as separate from their regular form (at least in the usage-based tiers, base Lucario/Mawile/Kanga were not banned from OU) Edit: More accurately, when a Mega Pokemon was banned from a tier, I think the item was just banned. The Mega itself wasn't shown on the Ubers/BL/etc list. I might be wrong, this was like 8 yrs ago

As a note, there is difference between something moving up and getting banned: If a pokemon moves up a tier, it means it is common enough in that new tier, not necessarily that it was overpowered in the tier below it. On the other hand, a pokemon that is banned is overpowered in the tier, but not necessarily good enough for the tier above it. Functionally they are the same; you can only use it in the higher tier, but there is a distinction. Also a pokemon can be both banned from a tier and move up. For example, after Garbodor was banned from PU, it did move up to NU anyway. If Garbodor were to ever drop down again, it would never reach PU because it was banned already. Might make a video about this concept just to make it really clear, because I know i was confused about the difference between moving up and down and bans when i started playing, because functionally they're the same thing

You are talking about M-Salamence. That thing is gross due to what you mentioned. Btw, it had MORE attack than Landorus-I, not equal, and also higher attack than A FREAKING MELMETAL, with good special coverage, Dragon dance, roost and a 234 BP double edge or a more conservative 199 BP return. It was one of the 2 best megas IN UBERS alongside the equally absurd Mega-Gengar, who luckily got instabanned due to Shadow tag.

@@N12015 Funny thing is that Mega Salemence was so busted, it was literally banned before ORAS even dropped. Due to leaks, Smogon knew what Mega Mance's stats were gonna be and released a "beta OU" ladder that very quickly proved it was dumb. Other funny thing, Mega Mance was actually considered unviable in ubers for awhile because it had to compete rather directly with Mega Rayquaza. Upon Mega Ray's ban, Mega Mance quickly went from D tier to S tier in a matter of days.

The same situation happened in gen 8, when Arctozolt and Arctovish got their hidden abilities while they were still legal in NU. For the 8 days left before the next tier shift, those two + Sandslash completely and utterly dunked on the tier, so much so that they quickbanned Arctozolt as soon as it was allowed back into the tier again

Personally I liked them more than Z-Moves and Dynamax. You knew exactly what you were dealing with at Team Preview and could adjust accordingly. There were alot of overpowered mons, but they settled down into their proper tiers at the end of the day( besides Mega Ray I guess). The only Megas I didn't like in the tiers was Mega Medicham/Mawile in OU and Mega Altaria in UU, but I liked how the others could be used Offensively and Defensively.

Video request: From what I can find, there is only one modern tier (Gen 3 or later) existence where there is only one Pokémon in its BL equivalent. That would be Sceptile, being the only Gen 6 NUBL Pokémon. I’ve wondered for a while what happened here to warrant only a single Pokémon ever being banned. Was it like a “Brawl Meta Knight” situation? Or was everything else just that much weaker?

Sceptile in NU had a combination of incredible speed and the right combo of moves and stats to be either a potent physical or special attacker, making it unpredictable and letting it counter different threats. The Unburden ability let it outspeed even Choice Scarfers.

Sceptile was not the only Pokemon banned from NU, but it was the only Pokemon that remained there until the end of the generation. Other Pokemon that got banned (Typhlosion, Magneton or Gallade for example) at some point got enough usage to move to RU proper so it isn't represented in the banlist.

gen 6 uu was possibly one of the best meta tiers smogon has ever had i remember for about it was a year to a year and a half Pidgeot mega, Victini, Mega Altaria and CB/CS DARM were all allowed and not banned for that long pidgeot was just so strong with stab hurricane that it could pivot in and out do damage with hurricane or heatwave and fast u turn out + RNJesus clearly loved the 10% confusion chance sm which was an important part of it eventual ban mega altaria was just a big bulky set up mon it was defensive as heck and had great typing with access to DD strong physical dragon moves + EQ or run a mixed attack set victini was the stable mon of the tier thing needed the eventual ban CB or CS sets could always 2hko and thay victory star accuracy bonus to all mons on team was super nuts UU in gen 6 was my favourite tier of all time it had so many hard hitters but so many defensive tanks or walls that it can be argued as one of the greatest tier metagames smogon has ever had (if u think differently then fine each to their own opinion)

Wingull is very fast (ties Abra), has two great STABs in Scald and Hurricane (often Z-boosted), and even has good utility moves like Roost, Defog, U-turn, and Knock Off to round out its set. What seems to have pushed it over the edge is the RNG factor of its main STAB moves. 30% burn, 30% miss, and 30% confuse make for some very swingy games.

It's a completely non-negligible power difference that is the difference between OHKOs and 2HKOs. If laddering the large sample size of games should make up for 85% accuracy, even if it feels like shit to sometimes miss two in one game, etc. Saying run Flamethrower because you have a Sheer Force boost is silly because Fire Blast also gets a Sheer Force boost.

MLop did have a kind-of counter in Tangela, which could eat pretty much any hit and regen it off if it didn't get its eviolite knocked off. Don't remember what mega mence in OU was like, so I can't comment much on that side of the equation.
