I am so happy he made this point. The strength of a teacher is to be able to help the students who are really struggling, instead of expecting them to be perfect on the first try. Josh treats Ollie more as a parent (with judgement and disappointment) rather than as a teacher (with compassion).

@dcardigan135 жыл бұрын
@@al11196 Disappointed parent?! That's a bit harsh (and depressing when you imagine an image of a disappointed parent). Isn't it more like a more knowledgeable guy teaching his best friend and teasing him along the way? There were many times when Josh smiled like a proud father after all when Ollie gets its right, and more often than not, he just makes fun of Ollie's face and sounds when he stumbles as they study. The way Josh reacts is like how close friends would react when one of them makes a mistake: laugh and tease them about it before moving on and helping them out/correcting them. I will agree though that Josh is not really like a professional teacher. He's more lenient and indulgent compared to a teacher; sure, teacher's are compassionate, but they wouldn't let their student make several jokes in succession nor encourage them while they're studying. And when your student admits they forgot to practice or study, as a teacher, you'd refrain to be as blunt or show your disappointment as obviously as Josh would. Rather than a teacher, Josh is really more like a friend helping their own friend to study. But as an audience of Jolly's channel, I wouldn't really like it if their study videos lose their comedic aspect.

As a beginner, I really appreciate this type of video. In case anyone missed it, Hyunwoo’s tip to anyone wanting to learn Korean (or anything, really) was: “It’s not about being fluent. It’s about WANTING to learn more and more everyday.” That’s the right mindset. If I may add to this, if your approach isn’t working for you, don’t throw away your goal, change your approach.

I don't think you should project your own feelings onto Ollie. He chooses to make these videos, he's the one who wanted to learn this way, and these videos are clearly for entertainment purposes. Ollie obviously has a lot of self confidence for him to decide to learn this way, and he obviously enjoys mucking around. Sure, he might learn faster with someone serious, but that wouldn't be as fun for us to watch and clearly, that's not what Ollie wants or he would have just done that.

Honestly Olly, you're more amazing than you think you are. I've been studying Spanish on and off for over 4 years now and I'm in a much worse position than you when it comes to fluency and understanding other people speak. And Spanish isn't meant to be too difficult to learn ;-; you can do it! and I'll keep working on my Spanish journey too! Good luck to all the language learners out there

Vic what’s the name of the book?
@vicshee5 жыл бұрын
@@sofiasantamaria7861 I've used a lot of Talk To Me In Korean (TTMIK) books, but the ones I use the most are the textbooks. They come simply in Levels, with Level 1 being the beginner book. I think the textbook Ollie is using now is the Level 2 textbook. Other great TTMIK books are 'My First 500 Korean Words', 'Easy Korean Reading for Beginners' and 'The Korean Verb Guides'. I don't work for TTMIK, I'm just a student here in the UK but I've used all of the above books and would recommend them to anyone who wants to learn Korean!

I love Hyunwoo, he’s really helpful and I’ve learned so much korean from him, it’s even better knowing that he’s a really friendly, funny person :)

Actually, I used to teach Korean to foreign friends when I was in Korea, and Ollie You're doing soooooo well!! You can be proud of yourself a bit more haha. Only the thing what I want to suggest you as a person who taught Korean language is, "Make at least 5sentences with the word you learn on each day. On your own! and ask Josh to correct that! Wish you be there:)

I know how hilarious Ollie learning Korean is. But can we just pause for a moment and appreciate how much effort he actually puts in to learn. Learning any language is difficult as hell. And Ollie is doing one heck of a job at it, even with his dyslexia aside. I respect is perseverance so much!

현우 definitely deserves to be respected by Language learners. if you have no idea about him. just dig in him right away

You do inspire me Ollie. I learn in exactly the same fashion, and not just with language. I've seen so many of my instructors experience the same frustrations. I would always feel bad or wrong and confused, because I knew I shouldn't, but its difficult. It means so much to me to see these videos. I feel better and more confident to try now. Thank you!

I actually respect Ollie alot because he's trying his best to learn korean and he really wants to learn it because he keeps on asking questions about everything and he doesn't get bothered if he does a mistake he just doesn't mind having a mistake in front of josh and the camera well he could simply say " ok i got it" or "yes i do understand" while he's not but no he dares and asks for more knowledge without hesitation .. thank you Ollie for teaching me how to be confident and do mistakes without getting embaressed ( sorry for the mistakes )
Honestly, Jolly has helped me a lot. Though I'm not 'studying' the language, I'm just trying to learn it enough to understand things. Ollie is actually pretty good. Like I see the frustration others have while teaching him, but he's pretty okay at the language. 감사합니다 졸리!♡ 화이팅!
