Americans' views of British food may be a lot harsher than those of the citizens of England, but general perceptions of food from different countries can be hugely biased; for instance, there's far more online hate and vitriol directed at France than any other country, while the perceived quality of Mexican food is generally held in high regard. Plus, many English viewers may hold Engish-based prejudices related to those fried pasty components of traditional British cuisine which Americans may see as unappetizing (think battered fried chicken). The tea part is fascinating. If you go to a traditional kopitiam (coffee shop) in former British colonies of Malaysia and Singapore (and certain parts of Indonesia) and order a cup of teh (tea), you will automatically get tea with milk (and sweetened). That’s just the default definition of teh (tea). If you want tea without milk, you have to specifically order it as teh o (tea without milk).

Steven’s parent are essentially Malaysian, so kinda weird seeing him never taste cadbury or drink tea with biscuit. Even Ribena are common in Malaysia.. 😂

The CONFLICT on Steven's face when Josh said "if it doesn't have milk in it, it's not tea" CRYING, that's his Asian cultural background having a crisis 🤣🤣🤣

As a Brit who grew up in Australia, I have a personal vendetta against Penguins, and I will bite any Brit that tries to claim that Penguins are basically the same as Tim-Tams, BOI THEY ARE NOT
@chazzerbox131 Жыл бұрын
They pretty much the same tho Tim tams are just a copy but slightly different just light Vegemite copied marmite 😂 😉

They are the same concept and as a Brit who grew up loving Penguins I will concede that TimTams are superior! 😂

it was so funny seeing Steven (Adam, according to the subtitles) and Brittney try all those foods

I was about to comment how funny it was that they put an American song like "My Country Tis of Thee" at 16:15 but TIL that the UK national anthem "God Save the King" has the same tune
@nickcagesgoodseed Жыл бұрын
I think it's a common phenomenon that a lot of national anthems have the same tune as God Save the Queen - I don't know if God Save itself is from another tune though

I went to England for all of three days and came home practically addicted to tea (milk included). Before I went I literally didn't like black tea, but when I went I told myself I had to drink it cause I was in England and I couldn't pass up the opportunity, and ended up falling in love with it and now I make myself a pot almost every day and have one to three cups a day and it's my favorite thing.

It's such an Asian thing having both Brittany and Steven's first reaction to British tea be like, "So this is like milk tea right?" LOL. (Although honestly as an Asian person who's never had English tea...I thought the same 😅) This was really fun! Loved how we got a bit of education about tea and British snacks, and the pop-ups describing Jollie's reactions felt accurate haha

Asia is not a monolith, don’t think that it’s the same everywhere in the continent. If you go to a traditional kopitiam (coffee shop) in Malaysia or Singapore and order a cup of teh (tea), you will automatically get tea with milk. If you want tea without milk, you have to specifically order it as teh o (tea without milk).

I’ve never thought the food I’m growing up with Dairy milk chocolate, Ribena drinks, favourite Jaffa orange chocolate, and my comfort food during rainy days-marmite with hot water as soup or condiment for my white rice porridge, is so British. I’m Malaysian by the way. P.S. I can’t take the vomit aftertaste either (Hershey) 😓

@@geordieghoulette7142 Haha I'm definitely not upper class, just from up North and have had too many cups of tea over the years due to it being a given every time you go to someone's house 😂 no I don't but I have tried it with milk before nd it wasn't the worst!

I'm not English, where I'm from the Bell brand of tea is common. I tried Yorkshire a few years ago. Compared to Yorkshire, Bell has a weaker flavour and is sweeter, Yorkshire has both a richer and more bitter taste. I now drink Yorkshire! Half of my pantry is now European foods from watching food tasting channels (also the Try Channel, Adventures and Naps etc.). Where in England are you from?

As a kid my mum made me have tea for breakfast every morning and I never enjoyed it for the 10 odd years she made me drink it. I can tolerate it but never drink it if I have a choice.

Thanks to the Sugary Drink Tax from a few years back, they changed the recipe to add artificial sweeteners, and I just don't think it tastes the same, any more.

this is what I heard but don't know how true it is, blackcurrant was hard to export from the UK to the USA back in the day, and thus when making flavored candy based off of the rainbow they were missing purple, so they made up a flavor and called it grape. it was supposed to be a mimic of blackcurrant but you can taste the difference obviously. I always wondered why "grape flavor" never tasted like grape and it was and still is my most hated artificial flavoring.
