I’m glad Jalen is balling, but it’s such a small sample size. The big screw up by the Nets is not getting their draft capital back. Unless they get lucky in free agency, this team has no future.
@Joefdgtr8 ай бұрын
I find the dynamics quite interesting. If Nets gave up Mikael to any team, theyre pretty much doomed to tank/get worse and Houston are happy cause those draft picks are prized. What's crazy is what the haul would be if you just looked at what they got from the Kevin Durant trade if they did the Mikal Bridges trade: Nets give up: Kevin Durant, TJ Warren Nets get: Jalen Green, Cameron Johnson, 4 unprotected firsts (from phoenix), their 4 first round picks back (from the Harden trade), 2 seconds, and a first round pick swap from Phoenix. That would have been an unbelievable haul.

It was possible because the Jalen Green the Rockets offered was a bum that was expected to ask for a max rookie deal in the offseason. The Jalen Green trade looks good now because he had a great month. Look at Green's career. Did he look like a guy who should get a max rookie extension? Why would the Nets want to be in charge of that situation? Even the Rockets still don't want to make that decision. Should they pay him based on one good month after 3 terrible years? I would still want to see Jalen prove it for another year.
@Shmuk-bn7ef8 ай бұрын
Concern for how a guy going into his 4th year feels about his contracts is a big part of the problem. That's what RFA is for. Even Derrick Rose who had proven a lot, he got that early extension and the big 1st injury happened during his 4th season. The Bulls cost themselves half a decade and $125m iirc by giving a f about a guy on rooky scale's feelings. My Dubs would never have gotten Durant if we paid H Barnes early. Dubs ownership made literally billions extra by making the franchise iconic in sports because of the wise choice to not give Barnes what he wanted at a time when they didn't have to.
@semi65448 ай бұрын
@@Shmuk-bn7ef -- Yeah, but stars should never reach restricted free agency unless the team has a really specific plan. The Sixers asked Maxey to wait a year so they could have extra free agency money for this specific off season. Restricted free agency is specifically for players like Jalen Green. Sometimes you don't know if you are evaluating your player properly and you see his value to the rest of the league and match the offer. Jalen Green has 1 good month in 3 years. I'd be willing to let him reach restricted free agency. If you as the Rockets really don't like the price you can still do a sign and trade to get something back.
