I attended many of her master classes at IU, and she was every bit a diva of the old school, extremely charming, but exuding ‘grandezza’. I remember a soprano who came up to sing wearing pants. She looked her over from head to toe and said, ‘Dis eez opera artista? More like vaht cat drag in.’ Last I heard Miss Zeani was still alive and living in Florida.

I am currently a voice BM at IU right now, so I was super excited to read this comment! Actually I am currently at IU studying with, basso Peter Volpe, former student of her husband, the great Nicola Rossi-Lemeni, so I get to hear many stories about him and of course about the diva Zeani. It’s a small world!

I’m currently studying with her husband’s former student! Does that make us half-cousins?

Nowadays Some people think the sining way of this video is not legato, not belcanto! But belcanto is let you feel the feelings by bella singing. So if you hear beautiful tone but no expression, that's more far away from belcanto.

The chest voice must never be carried above an F!!!! In classical singing. That's a rule.

Not emotional. Factually inefficient, outside of technique. Overacted/underacted = Bad performance and that is a fact. Try actually following Maria Callas' advice, "Use your minds better". ;)

you are outside of your mind. Zeani has a perfect old school technique.

Virginia Zeani the best Violetta, 648 performances.

honey calling something a "fact" doesn't actually make it one. also, overact? are we forgetting that these pieces are written to be performed in huge halls like, i don't know, Teatro Massimo of Palermo with the capacity of 1.387 people? the modern "tv acting" that "singers" do with their "vocette" these days simply cannot be heard, let alone felt, in such halls. and this, actually IS a fact.

@@Slaptothefuture scusa ma ci sei mai stato al Massimo di Palermo? How on earth lo puoi chiamare "huge"?...
@Slaptothefuture3 жыл бұрын
@@Tkimba2 il Massimo di Palermo is the 3rd biggest in Europe and the biggest in Italy. So, huge. Now, if we are to talk about the scale of Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, for example, a different adjective should be used (enormous, colossal, gigantic, etc). Semantics aside, my point in the previous comment is still valid.
