This video is amazingly helpful in pointing towards a direction. What I would really love to see though is a breackdown of what type of paint damage qualifies as heavy, medium, or light. So that we can better understand what pad/polish combo we should be starting with (or aiming for). It's hard to just go off of word descriptions, as one persons definition of heavy damage could be someone's definition of light damage.

Also would be nice to see some kind of visual representation of the differences between "soft"" and "hard" paint. As it applies to pad/polish performance and selection. For instance one of my vehicles is a '23 (Boost Blue) Honda Civic Type-R. I've heard Honda paint isn't particularly thick, so I'm paranoid about starting with the wrong pad. Currently I have the following in my arsenal (all types are in 5", 3", and 2" when available): RUPES: - Yellow Foam Polishing - White Foam Ultra Fine Polishing - Blue Wool Coarse - Yellow Wool Polishing - White Microfiber Ultra-Fine - Yellow Microfiber Polishing - Blue Microfiber Coarse BUFF AND SHINE - Uro-Fiber Microfiber (black and white) - Uro-Fiber Finisher Microfiber (black) Polishes/Compounds: - Koch Chemie - entire line of pure polishes/compounds (no added protection). - Rupes DA Coarse - Rupes DA Fine - Rupes Uno Pure - Meguiars M205/M105 - Meguiars M210/M110 - Sonax Cut Max - Sonax Perfect Finish - Dr. Beasley's Nano-Primer 45, 95, 150 - Gyeon Primer - Wizard's Mystic Cut (and possibly some others from Wizard's). - DIY Gold Standard Polish - Auto Fanatic Secret Weapon Polishers: 5" - 20mm throw DA 5" - 9mm throw DA 5" - 8mm throw Forced DA 3"/2" - 8mm throw DA What combo would you recommend for the Type-R? Damage wise, the car has been parked outside in Northeastern PA for for over a year...so besides some rock chips in the front bumper, there's some really light water spots, light pollen water stains, light bird poop stains/spots, and washing/drying love marks. The stains aren't drastic, mostly seen under specific lighting when wet or dirty, or when car paint is fogged up with moisture over night. Not sure if the spots are in the clear, or just any protection I have applied.

This visual simplified everything! I've worked on alot of cars & boats and still question myself all the time with product and pad selection! I used to just stick with my "process" and go but I've since slowed down and test the pad / polish / compound to find the best combination. I recently tried 3 different products on sections of gelcoat using the same pad and the results were very similar. One product rose to the top but not by much. So your video today reminds me that pad choice should be my first consideration then product choice to refine that decision. Where I struggle is figuring out the combination for a one step. Getting the best result with out spending a ton of time teaming up various pad / product combination. I learn more every time I touch a pad to a vehicle! Thank you for continuing to teach us! Even those that have experience!

I like P&S foam interface wool pads on the Flex 3401. I like this combo due to the Flex doesn't stall in tight curves and the interface on the wool pad gives a little cushion when going over edges and helps keep the paint cool. Rupes stalls too often.

That’s awesome. I had an older black Porsche I worked on. It was very challenging to correct the paint. Finally figured out the formula, after a number of hours. Used a yellow Rupes pad with spray bottle full of water with one drop of M205 with one maybe two passes. Came out great.

I appreciate all that Brian does for the community, but if there's one thing that sticks out to me here it's that he used a different panel for each test. If the 2nd blue panel has harder clearcoat than the 1st black panel, this test is kind of pointless. Why not conduct the tests on the same panel? Makes me think this is just another video pushing URO-TEC pads.

Perfect tuition lesson! Good explanation and proof. AmmoNYC suggested to polish difficult deep black with water - and so it goes. What I found quite useful is to choose an appropriate pad and use liquid wax as "lubricant". Works perfect and combines polishing work with protection applied. 3M synthetic wax works wonders on that behalt with a medium hard foam pad even on a rotary.

This is excellent, Im glad someone had the guts to make this video. I've said for a long time, spend money on quality pads and use whatever polish or compound you want. The liquid is a lubricant and nothing more. Fresh clean pads mean more than any fancy compound, that's just residual income for the companies.
