They did...It was called Lotus Cars Ltd - Project Elise...proved to be very successful when they spec'd their own head gasket.

This is fascinating. John Towers and Nick Stephenson, they would be back......such missed opportunities with Rover Group. Kept together, MINI, LandRover and Rover/MG could have been very successful, even if LR and Mini would have kept Rover afloat very much in the way LR keeps Jaguar afloat these days.
