It's kinda weird that this scene was in the middle of principle photography instead of the last day or week of shooting, consindering it'd be more appropiate with knowing this is the end, we have to say goodbye to my fellow actors, so it would put the better in the mood and give the right emotion for the scene. But it ultimatley didn't matter because they nailed it. I feel sorry for those guys to having to redo it twice because of custom misses done by Sean Astin and by technical difficulty (it wasn't ultimately the focus puller's fault, though it might seem to be).
@cheydinal54015 ай бұрын
Tbh based on some of the shots they showed here, it does seem like they were better on the first day of shooting I think the biggest issue for the actors wasn't even so much that it would be emotionally taxing in and of itself, but also that they knew they wouldn't be able to capture that raw emotion again after having done like a 1-minute sequence for an entire day the 2 days before. It's like, imagine some actual really emotional moment in your actual personal life, and imagine reliving that for sort of 48 hours straight, at that point you've just become completely numb to it and any emotion you're showing is just a superficial act
@mevb5 ай бұрын

This isn't about what's appropriate. It's scheduling according to what sets, people, etc are available.
@trequor5 ай бұрын
It's not that weird. Actors get tired. After two years of constant filming they arent going to have the same energy. Coupled with that are logistical issues. The four hobbits are together for most of Fellowship, but then are in completely separate scenes for almost two full movies. They only get together for the end in Hobbiton and the Grey Havens. So you want to get this filmed while everyone is together with their Shire outfits
@OuterEdgeOutpost5 ай бұрын
I agree, it always bugs me how chaotic they are with the shooting schedules. I'm not an actor, but it just seems like you'd get more authentic performances if you tried to shoot at least the really important scenes in the right sequence. All creative collaborations develop over time, people get a better feel for what they're doing, they develop camaraderie, etc, so it's inevitable that the performances will gain richness over the course of filming. It just seems like good practice to plan your schedule with that in mind.

It's the focus puller (or first assistant camera) whose job it is to maintain focus by adjusting it according to measurements and marks they made beforehand. However only the camera operator who is looking through the viewfinder will see if it's actually in focus or not. And it's possible for the camera operator to not notice if it's only slightly out of focus, because they are looking through the tiny viewfinder and not seeing it on a big screen. In the time of shooting on film, you would not see if it was out of focus until the film was developed. Nowadays shooting digital you will notice right away.
@christoffervala5 ай бұрын
The missing vest should've been noticed by the script supervisor and costumes, it's not an actor's job to to make sure they look the same. The second, as mentioned in the comment above, is the focus puller's (1st AC's) job - when shooting on film, you really only get to see the shots properly once the film is developed. It used to be so that at the end of each day the director, DP, Producer etc would watch the dailies/rushes from that day, which was the film they shot that was immediately developed and sent for review on a big screen.
