Big tip on squeaky trucks, it's 90% the pivot of your trucks and your pivot cup. Just last night I decided to fix the squeaky trucks using chapstick. First I just applied it to the pivot and the pivot cup and that eliminated most of the squeak, but once I gave some to everywhere else, it's basically gone.

I use a very small amount of lithium grease in my pivot cups. I keep a solution of fragrance/dye free bar soap dissolved in water in a eye dropper type bottle with my board at all times (kept adding water a little at a time until the soap fully dissolved). Lots of dust in the desert, soapy water dries up and flakes out, all the dirt and dust falls away eliminating squeaking and prolonging component life. I soap daily, sometimes twice, only takes a single drop for bushings and for pivot cup. I clean pivot cups with q-tips and reapply lithium grease about once a month. The tip nobody mentions is: Your bearings will not insert and stay flush within the wheel hub while dry. Grease up your wheel hub before inserting your bearings (combined with spacers this is the best tip for speed). Longboarders have the best skate advice when it comes to maintenance considering they rarely have sponsorship and actually care about top end performance. Board stompers are talented with tricks, however seem to be dogmatic and proud of ignorance, two less then respectable qualities I think. I ride pools and bomb hills with 9" ace af1 trucks and a 15.25" wheel base. Via custom bushing (all four are different durometers) my setup will carve on a dime and hill bomb without speed wobbles. Everyone who steps on my board loves it, even the tight truck types acknowledge the balance of responsiveness and stability. Look to long distance pump, slalom and downhill skateboarders for the best advice on bushings, bearings and maintenance tips.

If you have a hard time with your trucks not turning good when you first get them no matter how much you loosen them then wax your brand new bushings. The wax keeps your bushings slippery against the washers and hanger and temporarily makes your bushings feel broken in until they actually fully break in.

It's be great to see what "Frankentruck" combinations work and which don't. I've got spare Thunder 7.75" hangars lying around, and a pair of 8" Tensors that I'd be interested in combining to be able to skate a skinnier deck, and I'd be interested in seeing how they'd turn compared to stock.

I don't think I have a big enough pile of old trucks to try all of the combinations! I'm sure most would fit together, but the turning might feel wonky if the angle of the pivot doesn't match the angle of the pivot cup. If you give it a try let us know how well it worked! Cheers! - Tim

I thought of an idea that could help stop base plate holes from getting bigger. Have a 45 degree or similar tapered nut and have the same taper in the base plate holes. This could possibly make the base plates last longer. Vehicle's have this design in the wheels. But the only thing is that you would have to have the right nut with the base plate other ways it will not work well and I know many skateboarders would not be happy about the compatibility issues this would cause.

@tacticsboardshop4 жыл бұрын
Pivot cups hold the pivot in place and prevent it from wiggling around and chattering against your baseplate. It's important to have a functioning pivot cup if you don't want floppy unstable trucks. Have you checked to see if the deck is warped? Sometimes skateboard decks aren't perfectly straight and kind of twist very slightly and can make your board wobble like a stool with uneven legs. Look down the deck lengthwise and try to see if the deck slightly corkscrews. If it's slightly warped it wont affect your skating too much, but if it's really warped, it'll make everything feel a little off. I skated my first ever trucks for 1 year now and it’s only 25% Through 😂

Why is it so hard to find replace baseplates for independent trucks? My hardware holes are stretched out too much. Also, I feel like you should have gone over how to prevent this because it can be pretty annoying when your skateboard keeps turning by itself due to this problem.

Tighten your hardware every session this is the determining factor for me and my thunders which are very prone to baseplate stretching prior to me tightening them and checking them all the time I got about a year before they got stretched. I’m current on my second + year on standard thunders and they are only still pretty good. I even had to buy the thunder rebuild kit to get new bushing which is a first for me, I usually just ride trucks till they are stretched and then move on one loose hardware actually makes a difference I dunno how kids purposely and willingly skate with 3 bolts I just retighten every nutt every session and if I’m doing a lot of tailslides or noseslides I’ll even check the mid session sometimes

A couple decent budget truck brands are: Tensor, MiniLogo, and Bullet trucks. Here's a link to some trucks under $35. I hope you find something you like. Cheers! - Tim www.tactics.com/trucks/rp-0-35

I think you are supposed to back up the die a little bit every turn or so.

But what happens when ur nut is so damaged ur T tool won’t fit on the bolt what should I do?
@tacticsboardshop4 жыл бұрын
You'll have to use either a visegrip or a crescent wrench (pliers will probably work too) to clamp down on the nut. Cheers! - Tim

If people haven't tried Havoc trucks, I'd recommend them, affordable, light weight, can buy several pairs for under 100.00, slick and great for grinds or 50/50. Might also want to skate Bullet trucks.

How tight do you ride your trucks? Also, describe the blow out and how long does it take to get to that point?
