Tyler Lacroix Don’t go cheap, cause you’ll find excuses not to play. And don’t go over $1000 cause you may end up not liking it. Make sure you get one for the styles/genres you’re into first. Also, even for a beginner, I’d recommend going into an actual shop and trying a few out to see what feels and sounds good. Ordering online usually leads to a poor set up out-of-box and then you may have to deal with setting it up nicely.

As a new guitar player all I did was buy new guitars. Just love everything about guitars so I had them everywhere. Eventually downsized to 3. I found it all distracting from actually playing and practicing. I have 2 very similar ESP LTDs that I mostly play. One in the livingroom and one in my office so I've got a comfy guitar I like always nearby.

I got 2 les pauls copy, being one custom and one standard, and a prs style guitar. I bought the Standard about 2 months ago and it's fantastic, quickly became my number 1! I'm crazy about buying either a tele, a semi hollow, sg or a goldtop les paul, and I'm now a huge fan of P90s because of you and Mr. Frank Sidoris! And I can't wait to have P90 guitar, but I know my I have to buy a new amp before a new guitar for sure, and than a few pedals!

Like I said on the last video.I only have 2 guitars and that's enough for me.I have a DG-9 Fender acoustic that I have had for 19 years and I have a 1968 thin line Squier Telecaster I got 10 in a half years ago. Both guitars gets played a lot. So that closes it for me.

Agree with all points, especially the last. I buy intending to keep (and play) them forever. I've only let go of one (I have about 15) and it was a tele style guitar I gave to my daughter when she said she wanted to learn to play. I mean, how could I not?! And I gotta say, it's gonna take a little getting used to but I'm digging the beardless!

Like anything, maintenance is key. For guitars; playing is maintaining. If you have a guitar that's a case jockey, it's likely going to need some TLC versus a guitar that gets played and tuned with regularity. The more guitars you have, the more setups you need and those don't come cheap. I do have several guitars, and I'd say some pretty nice ones at that, but I have them for specific purposes in sound/tone etc. I can do that now. When I was a penniless shredder in my 20's, I made due with exactly one 80's (in the 80's) Kramer single pickup (EMG) Baretta and it did me just fine.

Well, I just got 4 new guitars and a new bass. Now I have 6 and a bass Gibson les paul studio Taylor 214ce Fender player strat Fender player tele Fender player strat Partscaster tele And a player p bass. One player strat has up graded pickups, the other I'm keeping stock until I find pups I want to swap.

Let me ask somebody that knows. Does an American Standard USA $1029 play the same as a MIM player series $679 Stratocaster. Not sound the same but do they play the same ....the feel of them. Because I've played some pawn shop models made in the USA that were older but I could feel the difference.

Erm.... I didn't buy a new guitar, but i slipped (over the course of a couple of days - slow-slip, like continental drift) and bought a used Cornell Plexi 18/20 off Reverb. I wasn't going to but the maker is based In Southend-On-Sea, where I was living on my boat for years.... and he uses stainless steel chassis, does Harry Joyce-style wiring (think Hiwatt custom) AND he eliminated crossover distortion. So yeah.... whoops!

Funnily enough, point 1 was what I commented on your last video to say that if its not negatively impacting on anyone, then its the time to buy. Points 2 and 3 though do kind of contradict themselves a bit. I don't buy multiples of the same instrument, even if they are the same brand - a PRS 594 (a Vintage LP), a PRS 509 (super strat with SC options), Custom 24 (24 fret modern 2 Humbucker with Trem), PRS Hollowbody II (Hollowbody double humbucker with Piezo) - are ALL different so I had no issue buying - but if I was gigging, I may want multiples of the same guitar for if a string breaks or playing in multiple tunings. If you don't buy 'multiples' and each is unique for a specific thing, its possible that a guitar could be 'cased' until you need it for that specific thing. Also, not everyone has the room or possibility of keeping guitars out. Its easy if you have a room for music. In other words, it maybe that someone has to keep guitars cased and some can live in cases until its needed for its unique attribute. 4 - I agree with - spending wisely - how best to utilise your money - and that too can roll into point 3 and 5. It maybe in your best interest to buy a 'vintage' instrument at a 'low' price. Keeping it cased, maybe for years on end, could be the best use of your money. Even if you yourself don't buy the guitar as an investment for the future, you could buy for your Childrens future, a guitar to sell to see them through college. Its not bought to play, will be cased, could be a duplicate (all be it older) and the best use of your money for you or your kids... Different scenarios and exceptions to the rules but in general you really shouldn't put you and/or your family/dependents at risk - the rest though is more 'guidelines' that are more situational and really down to the individual to assess at that time.

If someone just has 4 guitars they play a lot further down the line they will face the bill for re fretting 4 guitars . The money saved from refraining for buying more guitars starts to get eaten away in refret costs for the guitars being used all the time. Meanwhile the guitar that sits in the case unused for months or years once its cleaned and has new strings can seem like a new guitar and you rediscover qualities you had forgotten about - and probably the frets won't be very worn !

I have all of mine inn their cases except for the one I am playing at the time. I'd love to have a Hercules guitar rack but the room is crowed with my big pedalboard and 2 4x12's and 1 2x12. About computers, I'm an Apple guy like you, I have the 27 or 30in screen. I have heard nothing but bad stuff about the new Apple PRO, the older model PRO was good but not this one. Robert - did you recently injure that 79 Les Paul? I never noticed those scratches on the body above the strings!! What did you do!! I agree with all of your reasons and I think the best reason of all to NOT purchase a guitar is simply this one - "because I suck but with this guitar __________ I will be a better guitarist" - No, you won't... learn your craft then start buying stuff!! Of course there are rare exceptions - such as guy who really wants only to shred and play super fast on the higher frets and all he has is a Les Paul. I am more talking about a person who has a hard time going from a G chord to an open A chord thinking that it's the guitars fault that they are horrible guitarists lol.

The basic rule is , %50 off or you sell one. Make sure you have only or at least 3 Electric / standard and get a bass. Second have 2/ sets so friends can jam with and maybe a few in different tunings that would be 5, the next would get a classical and or add another strings .ect.. I have 12 guitars two 24 fret/metal different tuninngs. 2/ hard Rock strats.. under $150 each. 3/ standard. Plus a bunch of cheap guitars!!!!Thanks

I am a guy who thinks guitars are beautiful and should be displayed like art and ready to play. I have a burbonburst 58 reissue Les Paul and upon advice of a luthier, reluctantly put it in its case with a humidifier. I live in Calgary Canada, and in the winters it is dry dry dry, and the guitar was snappin''' and a poppin' and such due to what I thought was static buildup in the finish. What I did not expect after some duration with a little humidity was that it seems to me to look better. The top which looked good before looks just killing now and I cannot explain it, its the strangest thing. I have tried to verify it with my family but I question if they don't just say "oh yeah, its like night and day!" and then roll their eyes as if i'm a lunatic. So while I agree with putting guitars out all the time, this one goes away in the case where it stays until play time or just a peek. Any thoughts?

Make sure the soil stays wet but not to much like every 3 days water unless top soil is dry. Just bc its a palm tree doesnt mean it wants water everyday. Take her outside for a couple hours around like noon. Make sure it has a good drain system in the pot to prevent that old water standing and make sure to TRIM THE DEAD LEAVES OFF :). And get an organic soil rich in nutrients. Always make sure the tree is fed :):) trees are oxygen. Oxygen is LIFE:)

If you're thinking you need a new guitar (or pedal) because you're bored or stale, you might be better off spending a little time and money on a book, KZbin course, or a few lessons from a different teacher to learn something new. I see it with pedals mostly, but my friends are always buying new gear, bur rarely learning anything new. If that's not the problem, you might get more benefit from buying a new amp instead of a new guitar. A new amp can give new life to all the guitars you already have. It's a per dollar spent benefit multiplier compared to just another guitar to play through your old amp.
