@@dmitri9042 lol calm down bro, nobody is getting disrespected. He's referring to Page playing a tele on Led Zeppelin 1 and most people just assume it's a Les Paul. And quit trying to start an argument, saying that Hendrix wasn't the best of all time. If that's what you think, cool, that's your opinion.
@fragtagninja1633
@fragtagninja1633 4 жыл бұрын
@@dmitri9042, when it comes to Hendrix. Good, bad, better, are not really meaningful. The important part when it comes to Hendrix is this. The man was way ahead of his time, and completely original in so many ways. And that his influence paved the way for bands like Led Zeppelin. There is also the fact that he grew up a poor black kid, and didn't have access to music lessons like so many other guitarists. He was pretty much a self made man. Page may have been a technically superior guitarist, and was obviously influential in his own right, but Hendrix is the most important guitarist in history. Period. End of story. I like both players, but history will remember Hendrix in a way no other player can ever hope to achieve, and for good reason.

When I started to learn, I bought myself a steel string acoustic. Then my guitar teacher said I'd find an electric useful, so I bought a Tele. Then I bought a Strat that my teacher was selling for another student because he needed the money. Then I bought a Classical because I was learning some Bach. Then I wanted to see how an electric worked, so I built a Strat. Then I was offered a really good deal on a nice semi-acoustic - I'd have been a fool to turn it down. Then I saw a kit for a really pretty LP. I was learning some Zeppelin at the tine and I already had the tools I needed so...... Having built a LP, I needed to know how it's supposed to be set up so I had to buy one - just to make sure the one I've built is right. Today I've bought a 335 because they're just so darn pretty. I've wanted one for ages and got it for a steal - it was being sold by a parent whose son used to play but has given up so, really, I was doing them a favour by taking it off their hands. So there you go - I've had good, even altruistic, reasons for buying all of them!

Took her home, cleaned her up best as I could, put on some Slinky 10's, plugged her into a small Marshall tuber, and WOAHHH !!!. 12 string acoustic, 12 string electric, lap steel guitar, les paul, stratocaster, telecaster. es335, es175, gretsch 6 string electric, rickenbacker 12 string. These guitars all have very different sound. The list could go on and on depending on your guitar musical and textural needs for your writing. In essence I think a small music store collection of guitars is essential, in my opinion. As many guitars as your wife has shoes.

I love all four and I've had them all at some point. However, I came to realise that no matter how many guitars I had, there was always one that got way more of my attention than the others, the Les Paul Standard. I chose to dedicate my whole playing time to it, and sold all the others guitars but one, so that I could have a spare if I break a string in concert, or if I need to bring the LP to the luthier. That other guitar is a Gibson Nighthawk which has a splittable mini-humbucker in the neck and a (also splittable) full-size humbucker in the bridge position. That pickup being splitted gives some mean Tele tones, and the neck one some good Strat tones. I'm a happier man that way. Less stuff, less to worry about in terms of maintenance, changing strings, feeling guilty about not playing some guitars enough etc...

I need a Tele and a 335 in my life. And another Strat. Your statement about how every guitar brings out a different player in you is 100% accurate and I have been preaching that to friends for years. And this is why getting a new guitar is so exciting for me. I always wonder how that next guitarist will sound! Not even joking. I was a LP guy as a kid, and when I first played a Strat my dad had tears in his eyes and said "you're a strat guy". It was a mind blowing experience. 30 years later, I still reach for the Strat the most. I can't believe I'm 40 and have never played a 335. Can't wait to see how that is.

DavyCrockett the classic “Jazz” sound (Joe Pass, Pat Metheney, George Benson, Etc.) to me is a hollow body with a single humbucker in the neck position. P90s work too as they tend to have a fatter sound than a standard Strat or Tele single coil but you can dial in a nice “Jazz” tone with those as well. Any solid body would work although a Tele or Strat may not have the right Jazz “look” to it. IMOI think the amp plays more into the tone than whatever guitar you use. While most of the “blues slingers” like the tube amps that warm up and break up at lower volumes, Jazz players need something with more “clean” headroom and better fidelity and the “Polytone” has a cult following for this reason. Seems to me that you Roland amp would be adequate for this. It is all a matter of preference IMO but if my G.A.S flared up and I had the funds to act on it, I have always wanted a Fender Thinline Tele with Wide Range Humbuckers but then I am not really much of a Jazz player anyway!😆

This is the best breakdown I've seen, on why the 335 matters. And really, why all of these guitars are so iconic. There are literally countless people blathering about the 335 on KZbin, but it's usually more about which great guitar players have played them, and . . . basically, they look cool. But no one really spends much time breaking down what makes it play, sound and feel unique. They might mention a point or two about its sound, but quickly devolve into talking about how Clapton bought one because Chuck Berry played one, or whatever. This vid though, really gets to the point, and accentuates its uniqueness. Most guitar players know how different Les Paul, Strats and Teles are, but the 335 is so different that, to me, it's kind of difficult to decide exactly how to feel about it. You did a great job, though. That said, now I have to get the Pro with the hot pickups. Because I use my 335 for Clean tones. It's my favorite for a particular Clean tone that I sometimes look for. I've never loved their crunch, however I. Not because it sucks, but simply because it doesn't suit my style very well. It's a little TOO Bluesy. Your's, on the other hand, is a little more Jimmy Page. I think if I had a guitar with the Clean tone I get out of my 335, and the 70's dirt you get out of yours, it could easily become my go to guitar. Very versatile.

You need each one in a range of colors. Strat: You need an HSS strat as well as the SSS strat. I also just ordered an active HH strat. Each one in a range of colors. Tele: You need one with hot-rails and a coil-split switch as well as one with dual single coils. Each one in a range of colors. Les Paul: You need one. I have four because I wanted a stock standard, a dual P90 56 re-issue, and I modded a headstock repair black Lester with blackout hardware, a killswitch, and a multi-position preamp; I also bought a Wolf WLP 750T, because they're only $450. ES-335: I'm not a huge fan of hollow body electrics. I do have an Ibanez Artcore Expressionist hollow-body that I like, but I wouldn't say that everybody needs one.

I'm relatively new to guitar, been playing almost 3 yrs, and I've spent way too much since I've started. I've owned about 9 guitars, mostly different brands & pickups. What I own that I can't live without: American Performer Strat SSH Gibson ES339 American Deluxe Telecaster HH. I obviously have respect for the Les Paul but when it comes to its weight & discomfort, I feel like it just doesn't need to be this way. The ES339 is lighter, smaller than the ES335 so you can use a smaller case, and aside from a little more feedback if you're right in front of an amp, it just does what the LP can do, without the pain in the neck & hunching over like a dog humping a football.

Why so christo? I would have thought a guitar with 3 humbuckers, all split, or maybe a p90 in the neck. Ergo, the permutations are huge, 4 is nowhere near close to enough

I'm comparing them to my first guitar in the 1960's, SEARS & ROEBUCK, double cutaway, sunburst, tail-piece, double pickup and VERY DIFFICULT to play. Strings were about 1/4 inch about the frets AT THE 1ST FRET and even higher as you moved up the fretboard .,, but it sure built up my finger muscles and callesus'. Thanks for another excellent video, Robert.

Great video! My non Gibson branded 335 I put a screamin demon which is just a mildly over wound paf @10k and a Seth Lover in the neck. Amazingly they really match for output and tone. The cool thing is that hotter bridge just riffs when the amp gets cranked and really has some spank to the bloom of the note on single note leads. I've found that low wind bridge pickups just get real sweet under compression and don't give you that riffability that generally a Tele or Les Paul has in the bridge. Of course the SL in the neck takes care of those sweet tones. 😁

You kill those rifffs on the lespaul. What amp are you playing through? it sounds great. No acoustic guitar or nylon string?

First thing is, it was GREAT to hear you say that Strats, and Teles are different guitars! Guys say that say they are basically the same guitar in their videos drive me nuts. I saw quite a few comments about collecting. There is a huge difference between collecting, and having a lot of guitars. I have a few, but no duplicates. One Strat, One Tele, One Flying V, and so on. Each guitar has it's own sound. You are right that each guitar you are play will pull something different out of you. Same is true with amps. Great job on this video!

Depends on your favorite styles. I like more steelstrings but it makes a difference if you're do strummings or fingerpicking stuff. So my decision was a good dread for strumming and flatpicking, and an OM model for fingerpickings. OOO, OO or parlors a also great for pickings. A 12 string is very special. On the electric side as well. It's nice to have a 12-string Rickenbacker. But the restringing and tuning😉

The coil split on my LP is a true found-off split, and it sounds very much like a strat. You’d be surprised
