In episode 527, we asked Jeff and Dr. Michael Wittmer what should a man focus on when considering getting on TRT/HRT. Dr. Wittmer explains that the "normal" range is too vast to rely on so one must go off of feel. If you have a high level but still feel terrible, you should still consider starting TRT/HRT. Started TRT at 50. Taken all the antidepressants over the years and been a heavy drinker. Quit drinking, dialed in the diet and started with pushups and walking. Started TRT and the sense of well being is better than I've felt in 25 years. No more drugs, working out and feel great.

@@seanmcguire7974 you definitely are right. When I was on heroin/fentanyl I got my blood work back and my test was almost zero... they actually redid the test thinking it was a mistake. Unfortunately if you’ve been on opiates that long, you won’t be able to get all your natural test levels back most likely, especially if you’re on some sort of opiate replacement therapy like suboxone (or much worse if you’re on methadone). A starting dose of 100mg/week was enough to get my levels to the middle of the reference range and feeling much better.

Ironically I'm 39 and I just started my first TRT cycle. Visceral fat, low libido, poor erections tired all the time, Moody. Extremely sensitive and emotional. There's only so much you can do naturally.I was lifting weights daily, eating extremely clean and doing everything I possibly could to minimize estrogen, my T levels were still like 300. I finally decided enough is enough. I want to see what it feels like to be an animal man with high testosterone for once. I've been on for a few months and my testosterone has already been tested at almost 500. I gained 200 points in 4 months. It continues to climb. I feel younger, stronger, better in bed. This stuff literally saved my life.

Few weeks/months into TRT and I've had way more motivation to get back into the gym and just live life again. I'm thinking more clearly and not so tired all the time. I'm confident again have the drive I did 10 years ago. Suck I had to get on it at 30 years of age. But there is no way I could have lived another 40-50 years the way I was feeling. I think my test is a bit higher now because, I’m getting better sleep and more vitamin D. I feel fine and pretty muscular. Might wait a little longer before I consider TRT. So your test does not have to be super high to have libido and happiness. TRT can also go the wrong way for dudes and then they get worse. I had good libido and erection quality with T at 210... but I had less energy and the recovery after workouts was longer. But you also have to think in this way: If your T is low then your E2 gets also low. If this condition stays for a long time you risk osteoporosis and cardiovascular and neuro-degenerative problems. E2 to protect you from all of this. Therefore I would consider TRT above my 40s in any case. I’m convinced you will stay this way healthier through your 50s, 60s and beyond. Especially if you consider a good diet with a moderate workout combined with your TRT. This is really the golden triangle.

I’m on TRT. TRT doesn’t directly fix high blood pressure or cholesterol issues. What it does is is it allows you to have the energy to get off the couch and exercise. If any of you have or had low energy or roller coaster energy due to low testosterone you fully understand not being motivated to get up and moving. It might not be everyday but it’s often enough to notice it. It sucks when you want to exercise, show up to work motivated, and play with your kids but your physical shot from lack of energy. When testosterone kicks in the energy comes back. It comes back in such away you begin to question if it’s real or just a placebo but then days pass, week pass and your like hell ya! You need to eat right to lose weight. Yes, testosterone will up your metabolism but if you eat like crap it’s not going to magically make you lose the pounds. I learned that. Testosterone compliments a healthy lifestyle really well. In return your blood pressure and cholesterol goes down. Regarding sexual function and libido. Not all guys ED or desire come back from Testosterone use. It’s not a cure all but it does help a lot of men. That truth can be heart breaking for a man. I’d recommend black maca on top of TRT if you are not seeing the desire resulting. I actually had to reduce my weekly Testosterone in take due to my libido being out of control. Sex addict level. It was crazy. I found out I’m sensitive to test. 100mg once a week puts my overall test level at 1500. That’s not normal. I started at 375 overall test before taking anything. I’ve actually dropped my testosterone down to 60mg a week and feel great. I’d suggest starting at 100mg split twice a week. No AI needed. After 2 months get blood work and see how you are doing. Ironically numbers don’t specifically matter. Is your symptoms resolved at a certain number and injection frequency? That’s what matters to you and TRT clinic. You go to a doctor and you testosterone is over 800 but symptoms are not resolved they will say too bad. TRT clinics will give you more testosterone in your protocol up to 200/250mg a week to resolve symptoms . That’s the government limit on TRT in US I believe. I know this is a long post but I think it’s important to put out the details of being on testosterone. You should really think about this lifelong commitment. Let me tell you, when you get dialed in and your symptoms are resolved and you feel young again, you are never coming off this stuff. It reinvigorates you. If it’s been years of feeling like crap and then this hits the right way it’s impossible to go back. Good luck with your journey.

@@mattmason4589 no. Just once a week, but I do recommend splitting it twice a week so you avoid possible roller coaster energy. I’m kind of a rare case doing 60mg once a week and feeling great all the time. I did move it up to 70mg last week. My libido is great. Not low and not completely out of control like it was on 200mg a week. It was worse than being a teenager and my desire was never satisfied. I don’t take maca at this time. It definitely worked for me when I was not on TRT. I don’t need to take it anymore. Maca is different however than TRT. It makes you really fantasize about sex. It makes you want sex but in a crazy way. TRT was more of, I can have sex at any moment multiple times a day.

Between the test and stomach shots of HCG The shots add up. But I do like the lower dose each time aspect of multiple shots a week. I think it’s more natural and would balance your hormones. I had a reason to do it once a week but that changed. I’m even taking more Test. I needed more estrogen. You do not want low estrogen. Whether that’s from taking an AI or taking too low of a dose. Gave me panic attacks when estrogen got too low. Anyway there’s various protocol and administering test. It’s a journey to find what’s best for you. What optimizes me might not work for you.

Strongly agree. Exhausting alternatives will look like too much work for many people. Once the TRT/HRT honeymoon is over, it's often too late to come off the supplements without a painful path. It's baffling to me how many fitness/strength podcasts allow for all this plugging of TRT/HRT rather than encouraging people to "do the work". Of course this type of Doc will tell you that TRT/HRT is a great way to go. For anyone not in their late 50s yet looking for a second opinion, talk to some friends who've done TRT/HRT for 7+ years and discuss whether they would they do the same knowing what they know now. For the vast majority of men, your older self will thank your younger self for making life style changes first and considering TRT/HRT as a last resort. This is not a scientific opinion but I've seen quite a few men around me, who had second thoughts a few years in and had a horrible time coming off test/h/gh (and in many cases a family to come along for the ride). Then making the healthier life style change they could have made in the first place.

This guy didn’t say what his lifestyle was that led him to put on fat. It seems like you’d first want to eliminate sugar, minimize carbs and try a ketogenic or carnivore diet. If you conquer your bad eating habits, sleep and exercise and you still feel foggy and tired then go ahead and try TRT. Otherwise it seems like you’re looking for a shortcut. Personally I’m 63 now and I’ve been a serious weight lifter for about 44 years. I was a wrestler before that for 6 years so I’ve always had the mental toughness and I never took steroids. I’m definitely more tired than I used to be and my joints hurt but I figure that’s just the deal. I have no issues sexually, and I still train a lot but I’ve learned how to hold back. I personally don’t like crutches. I also eat a predominately carnivore diet and nap every day. If you aren’t eating as well as you possibly can and doing everything else in your power then I’d say suck it up and do that first then if you’re still fatigued then have at it.

here in the UK we have the National Health Service (NHS) which employ top doctors and have cutting edge technology. The NHS advice on low testosterone is if you feel unwell and have low T then they might treat you. I have had low T for years and feel fine, go to the gym and have loads of energy and muscle. TRT in most cases isn't required its just a life style change that is required. remember TRT has to be monitored closely and its expensive, blood tests on a regular basis. It can give you high blood pressure, enlarged prostrate and other problems . These private companies that offer TRT are earning loads of money and most of the time TRT isn't required.

This. It seems TRT in States is a whole other business compared to Europe. I've had testicular cancer and have lowish levels, but my docs, who are specialized to this exact area, won't even consider TRT without clear symptoms AND throughout testing. Then they MIGHT want to experiment for a few weeks with a gel while monitoring you like hawks. THEN and only then you might be on for a while if you really seemed to benefit from it. It's like a whole different world when you read about dudes here jumping just like that on protocols with double my values.

Sorry, but you don’t understand the topic properly... Good for you if you feel fine. But classical TRT, meaning a T dose which will put you in range, high but in range is absolut beneficial without any serious risks for 99.9% of the men. Every other med you have to take daily is potentially more dangerous: even Paracetamol or Ibuprofene... And it’s a life commitment: you don’t try it for a while, you stay on it for life coz you’re deficient. Ever heard of a diabetic who stoped with his insulin shots? A physiological dose of a bio equal hormone causes no harm to the body: quite the contrary: it enables your body to function properly.

This will be controversial but needs to be said. If you are about to become a bodybuilder and compete. Not just use steroids. Then the reality is you'll be on stage multiple times per year and constantly on off on off on off. There is absolutely no benefit to being off tanking your test then within 5/6 weeks being back on. Go on TRT 150 mg a week between cycles and work with your doctor throughout. Outside of bodybuilding you can cycle on and off perfectly fine.

So.... this info is specific to bro-nem who were "enhanced" at sometime in their lifting careers, correct? Because I am 3 weeks away from 49. I started lifting in early 2016 at age 43. My test was low due to bad diet, lack, of rest, and everything else that comes with being an internationally touring DJ/Producer. Almost 6 years later, I've maxed my genetic limits, am more fit, lean, jacked, and stronger than I was at 18. And my test is a high as it was in my 20s. (crazy morning wood daily) It sucks that some dudes have to take TRT. But it seems to me that all but a very small percentage who would have gametically needed it anyway, induced an artificial "andropause" on themselves with the gear. No judging. To each his own. Just offering a different perspective.

Hearing guys more and more in their 20s and 30s not being able to cope with the slight slow down that naturally happens and run straight to the drugs is really sad. I'm 55 years old. I surf every day for 2 hours. I supplement with resistance training 4 days a week. Am I as resilient as when I was 20? Of course not. But I'm pretty damn close. And that's probably because I didn't abuse my body when I was young and I stayed on point with my diet and lifestyle. This guy obviously took performance enhancing drugs when he was young because he was impatient about his growth. Then he let himself go. And then he turned to drugs again to solve his problem. Which is his choice but now he seems to be projecting. Without really considering his role in his own decline. If you're in your 30s and thinking about TRT you should first get your house in order and optimize your lifestyle. And then see what's left. It's just kind of nuts to see people that aren't even old enough to know what it's like to be old, acting like their bodies falling apart because of some vague feeling that they're just not the same as when they were 18. No shit Sherlock!

@@KomonAthlete l listened to it all. He let himself go. Got fat. Used drugs when young. Now back on drugs. Mr shortcut. And still looks 15 years older than his age. But hey I totally get it if you're already pretty darn old. Who knows how long you have to live so I get totally shutting down your testicles and switching to exogenous testosterone. But it's so crazy when I see guys in their twenties feeling they need hormone replacement therapy. But then you look at their diet and lifestyle and they're doing quite a few things wrong. They eat too little fat, they're way too lean, basically they're creating a situation where they're tanking their own hormone production and robbing themselves of the calories they need to function properly. That's why I say do everything right first then find out what's left. Because that's the only way you'll really know where you stand. It's the same thing with lifting. If you haven't put 5 years of full dedication in the gym you have no idea what your potential is. But now we have so many guys that lift for 6 months and they wonder why they're not jacked like dudes on Instagram, and then they go straight to the drugs. Then they essentially chemically castrate themselves and need to be on the juice the rest of their life while their arteries hardened, the liver gets fucked up and then they die young. But they'll have a six pack! Which no one fucking cares about it all. No one gives a shit about your big muscles. That's what's really tragic is the investment in this outward appearance that really nobody cares about. I see the same thing in surfing. It's not as common as it used to be but in the 80s there were so many groms investing so much of their identity in being a ripper. And then they quickly find out that after about age 22 literally nobody gives a shit if you can surf. It has no cache in the real world. And many of them would turn to drugs to numb themselves from the disappointment of investing so much of their identity in something that doesn't matter.

@@biglou80 I disagree, I think glasses , insulin and the rest of your comparisons cannot be compared here, in particular insulin. TRT is basically sold as when you reach a certain age you will need to take testosterone, I’m not against people doing it, but I think it’s breeding a culture of “you will have to do this at this age because that’s just the way it is”. Then it creates a culture or stigma around not doing it. Some men will simply not have to do it, some men will think they have to do it. I think there is a difference to needing to do it and thinking you have to do it. It’s also a combination of a lot of lifestyle factors up to that point. The old guy talking basically said he used PEDs in the 80s and 90s, this would of impacted on his natural production for the rest of his life, you don’t just sit on a toilet and get fat overnight. @@rawirihemi27 it has nothing to do with reaching a certain "age"... every comment you make is just a testament to how little you actually know about the science and how your perception is colored by your own personal biases. @rawirihemi27
@rawirihemi27 3 жыл бұрын
@@biglou80 you must be a TRT user lol. No personal bias here, just an opinion. Saying insulin ‘May’ be a much more potent drug is pointless, it is relative to the need of who needs it. The need for insulin by diabetics is a necessity, if they don’t take it, they die. The need for TRT is not a need, it’s a privilege. You do not need to take TRT, but people with lower test levels may live an increased quality of life. Yes as you age, your hormonal profile tends to decrease (Testosterone, et al), hence the apparent need for TRT for a ‘better quality of life’. My issue is people jumping on the TRT bandwagon at the slight mention of it, health centres are making a lot of money off peoples insecurities. I have trained for 17 years, I am 35 and the ‘science’ and basic human biology denotes that my test levels are now decreasing. This is a part of life, this does not mean I ‘need’ TRT now, in 10 years, or in 20. Anyone I have ever meet with low test levels ‘sooner’ in life have either used PEDs previously or have a below average lifestyle of activity, diet and mentality. You could take TRT away from Joe Rogan and he would lose half of his identity. Google “humans age or they are dead”, look at the blood work for that. You can google whatever you want, there will be a counter argument or data against it in some way, shape or form. Andropause is a decline or sense of well being in testosterone levels in older man. You said age has nothing to do with it?

My total testosterone is 402 and free T is 18,6 pg/mL ... and I don't know if I should do something about it. I'm 37yo

I'm 21. My total T is 332ng/dl. My diet is very clean besides an occasional taco bell run. I lift every day. I also compete in martial arts. I got laughed out of an endocrinologist office. I don't have the money to afford TRT unless I go UGL or can get it covered by insurance. I am concerned about fertility being an issue on test. What do I do? Need some help here.

@Vattem I made this comment awhile ago but I'm starting TRT in June. I'm working now and have some income to afford it and I'm getting a little family discount from a clinic.

I’m 39. I went to a clinic. Free test is 437 and shbg is 219. My insurance won’t cover it. The clinic. Said I’m qualified because of my symptoms. Lack of sex drive and motivation. Weight gain, memory loss. Should I pay for it myself? They said they would put my levels between 700-900. Does this sound legit? The place is in Reno nv. It’s called ageless mens health. I ham do 2 shots a week if I don’t want his and lows or 1 a week if I’m busy or whatnot. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

27 is very young, did you hear the first part of the video, skinny-fat guys coming up wanting quick gains.. pick up a barbell first, get better sleep and nutrition before you make a LIFE LONG commitment to TRT. Just saying be careful out there.

Unfortunately I started my trt and had some crazy side affects like sleep apnea, enlarged prostate and decreased nostril size. I gained over 50 pounds in the first 8 months with most of it happening in a 1 month span. Thankfully I got a cpap and found a few helpful supplements and I'm down 40 pounds in 6 months and feeling great!

It accelerates/increases hair loss in those already susceptible (due to increased formation of DHT). Not everyone goes bald (look at Arnold, Jay Cutler etc.) but yeah quite common
