Biffa, at that troublesome intersection, create slip lanes for traffic turning right at the sharp angles. The trucks turning there are slowing everything down, then you can have 2 straight through lanes
@jaredlash50023 жыл бұрын
When using the automatic timed traffic lights with the tram roads at a 4-way junction, I always specify a dedicated right-turn lane with a shared left/straight-on lane. The automatic timed traffic lights have two steps that allow right-turning traffic to go through. This, in conjunction with pedestrian bridges/tunnels and disallowing pedestrian crossings keeps things moving along.
@nostrabar-games3 жыл бұрын
When you have the TM:PE-setup timed traffic lights, you always want a dedicated RIGHT-turn lane(s). The way they work is, each direction coming into the intersection gets their own phase (turn). So, if you imagine sitting at the intersection, when it's your direction's phase, cars coming from your direction can go right, left, or straight ahead. However, because you don't have u-turns (typically), the traffic coming into the intersection from your left can have a green right-turn. Similarly, when the traffic coming in from the right has it's phase (turn), your direction's right-turning lane will also be green. As a result, your right-turn traffic can continue to flow during the next phase of the intersection if you have a dedicated lane for right-turns.

Pedestrians: pains in the butt. When I've got a busy junction with timed traffic lights, I set the peds to manual red for all traffic cycles then give them a 2sec/5sec pedestrian-only cycle at the end. Turning traffic then doesn't screech to a halt because of stray peds.

The 'turn on a red light' policy makes so much sense, as long as there's a dedicated turn-right lane (which is what you ended up with) BUT irl when you're not familiar with it, it makes crossing roads in the USA as a pedestrian absolutely terrifying, when the sign says WALK and then a car comes round the corner at you.

A couple of thoughts. when I make a new mass transit line, I cut the vehicles back to the minimum, and come back later to see if the riders are being accommodated. My goal is about an average of 50%+ ridership on the vehicles. If I have an area where I'm getting a ton of riders, I nick hell out of them on the ticket prices. Another thought, these things you're showing us serves well until traffic becomes significant. My traffic gets to the point that even lane merging in the middle of an express highway brings the flow to nil. I find I have to go through and eliminate ALL crossing traffic (WAIT! I need to exit in just four nodes! Screw traffic!) Then, I do the lanes Maths, and all that business. Traffic circles, because of lanes of crossing traffic, and traffic lights, because of limited flow, DO NOT handle heavy traffic. There's only so much room for alternate roots, so sometimes, it just comes down to flow. I wish we had more control over lane management ) If you're in lane 2, and 1.) If you came from lane 1, then go left; 2.) If you came from lane 3, go right.

Let's start with the important stuff: Congrats to 500k! Now to the episide: Yeah, I think every CS player has "THAT ONE junction" that's always a bit of a mess. Public transport, TMPE and NE2 can take care of 90% of the problems, but at some point it comes down to zoning, and where the cims want to go, and you just kinda deal with it because you'd have to restructure your whole city.

Biffa! READ CAREFULLY!! In case you don't know this yet: When you place a 'timed traffic light' useing the quick-setup on an intersection where four or more roads connect, roads that have TWO lanes heading INTO the intersection also get their lane arrows adjusted. But incorrect! If you look closely to how the traffic lights are programmed, you'll see that right-going traffic gets a green light during TWO steps of a full (4-step) light cycle, while straight-, and left-going traffic only get ONE green light per cycle. So when you're in a situation where two lanes head into an intersection, and this cannot be altered, I highly recommend having a dedicated right turning lane, and a shared lane for going straight and left. (This could've saved you a lot of trouble in this traffic fixing vid you posted on 9 feb. 2021 where you placed a TTL at 11:20, and caused a lot of back-up later in the vid at 27:00 because of what I just described. It may well have led to a different video name ;) )
