i agree. what he can do is use asset editor, pull the common junctions, edit them with "lane mathmetics" then save it as a seperate asset. im actually plan on doing that myself now that i thought about that.

4:00 The SPUI is always great, especially if you need to upgrade your basic diamond interchange without much room and don't want to take everything out. However, for those wanting to use them, you REALLY need TMPE to make them work properly, otherwise the citizens do very weird things. Ramp wings should be right tuns only; yield and pick lane onto the city street with a close intersection, otherwise your typical merge math. At the center, a timed light with three phases, each both directions simultaneously: Straight on city street, left onto highway, left off of highway. City street at the center should have one lane straight, one lane left (add more depending on how much traffic you get).

TBH I think an SPUI isn’t really appropriate any more for that junction, there’s just so much traffic going through it that the only reason it works is because there aren’t any traffic lights or safety measures in place to begin with.

You need to try to slow down a bit now and again, Biffa. You’re not looking at what you are clicking sometimes. At 36:45 you clicked to switch off the crossing, only to switch on U-turning. The junction you came to at 37:55 You could have added a roundabout in the middle of the lower part.

Or just remove the diagonal streets and have them figure it out in the two crossings, not the best but probably working miles better than it was. (at 37:55 and intersections alike)

I love watching you build, especially since my old pc can't handle this game. On top of that I'm actually in construction so seeing you work the meta of the game, and seeing how it applies in real life is fun for me. I do enjoy the round islands, but I find the fixes and teaport more fun to watch. I think of the island build like it is some sort of alien planet build. Hey Biffa: You sure your not from Flint/Detroit Michigan, where they polluted the water? "People are getting sick from drinking the water." Also, I believe that the timed traffic light is taking into effect, the Tram as well. Also, the Tram stop is on one side of the intersection for both directions (East/West Stops on West Side leaving a Tram in the intersection, see @44:33). Might be nicer if you split the stops, matching the direction of the stop on the same side of the intersection (East stops on the West Side and West stops on the East side). That should free up the intersection.

There is a setting to let busees ignore lane markings; you won't have to worry about forcing them to go where they don't want if your routes are sound.

Last comment seemed to error out. The intersections you dislike in that map are the new "go to" intersection around the Phoenix, Arizona area. The Turbine Junction was way too big and unnecessary. You only have highway from one direction and normal road the other way. A normal highway with a roundabout on/off ramp would totally suffice And you could try and put the tram turnaround inside the roundabout!

A thing I like to do when I stumble upon a lane problem like at 29:25 in the video is use both inner lanes of the highway as a turnaround point. This can benefit accessability and it doesn't interfere with any traffic. Then you can connect the remaining lanes normally to the two lane road and it all adds up. Yes I noticed in this particular situation there is a tram lane in the middle, which is less than ideal but if you give priority to the trams, this shouldn't be a problem as the turnaround won't be used that much if everything else is set up decently.

I am happy to let you know that the lane mathematics does happen IRL :D At least where I live. Just a few areas on a highway and on just one bypass road, where I live, actually adds or takes away just so traffic can flow smoothly and it works just fine. People say it’s not realistic then, I guess I live in one of your cities 😂

With those web junctions, you did lane mathematics to get traffic to go where the slip lanes already are. If you got rid of the crossing slip lanes, it may improve the traffic flow through them

26:00 The SPUI is good for when you have a lot of thru traffic that needs to cross the freeway, as traffic only needs to cross a single intersection where they may be stopped. They can also be built to be quite small, in case land is at a premium. Edit: at 40:00 you mention going thru one of these IRL. my local freeway entrance is one of these, and its quite nice. The six way intersection is just a normal 4-way in disguise, so when properly set up, it is a lot more elegant than it would seem.

At 40:48, the criss-crossing streets underneath allow to go in all kinds of directions, which is totally unnecessary since if you want to go right, there's a lane for that and if you want to continue straight on you can take the road above, so why move off the main junction road, turn left only to move onto the main junction again? The criss-crossing would work, if the vehicle on those roads were only allowed to go left. I hope that makes sense?

I've seen junctions similar to your fix around 18:58. Usually, they're upgraded to 5 lanes and then split off 2 so the through of the intersection remains a 3.

near the end of the video, check that junction with the asc. tram. i noticed that non-tram vehicles are using that lane to turn on both sides. you may need to ban traffic to make those lanes as bus and/or tram only.

The last intersection you worked on, the trams at the stop were blocking the intersection in one direction and a travel lane in the other. The 3/2 asymmetric tram road, the tram shares a vehicle lane. Get rid of that stop.

The weird tram problem at the end was a stop right next to the timed traffic light. The weird timed traffic light double sets were so you could have the tram signals be different than the road signals.

Here's an idea for the trams, the one junction where you moved the tram stops to the turn around loop, why not have the trams underground until after the roundabout, than come aboveground. You'd maybe need to shift around the loop again, but at least the tram line wouldn't go through a roundabout unnecessarily, especially with it being right after that junction.

Those weird interchanges are called Single Point Interchange (SPI) and they route all left turning traffic plus the traffic crossing the highway onto a single intersection, while the right turning traffic is handled in bypasses. The traffic coming from the highway into the central junction should always turn left and can cross in front of each other. So you should restrict the center junction to only allow left turning to make it true to life and force people to use the bypasses as intended. They are also meant to be used with a traffic light to regulate the flow.

Biffa is no even the best at lane mathematics, at 4-way junctions, you need 1 lane to each direction of 3, but for some reason Biffa quite often likes 2 lanes going straight on, when the 2 other dircections go off in one place he only does 1 into 2 directions, or changes the highway to 4 lanes!

Just discovered the "hugo there there" at the 30th minute. brilliant. You could also just drop everything by 1 lane in that area. so crossing over the highway single lane + 1 from the junction fitting into 2 lanes where the tram is. Regarding these junction with the 6 direction direction crossing, mi first thought was to get rid of the mess underneath and repalce with a round about. even after adapting, the thing isn´t clear and the cars can go anywhere. to get fron a to b there are still several way which is a bad idea. For the junction you might add at the end, there is one of these simple 3-way higway junction that could be upgraded to a 4 way to give acces to the area.

I trie to use the same whay in my games that i see IRL. Therefor i build two nodes with an aditional lane when a road merges onto or splits off a highwhay. I haven't had anny issues with this system jet, but i'm also rather new to this game (thank's for getting me into it btw).

I find that if I make roads with trams on them, I need more lanes in general, because they slow down turning in some of the intersections. Using node controller does help a bit though.

Hey biffa in your next fix I have a request. Id like you to do your lane mathmatics and merge things side by side. Like you split screen the time-lapse so one side is the time-lapse with lane mathmatics the other side is without so we can see just how much it helps. Edit: cause honestly I think it'd be great for people to actually SEE the difference and the traffic build up phase is probably a good indication?

That tram stop needs to go at that last intersection. Trams are stopping at it right after they go through the intersection, which is causing other trams to back up behind in the intersection.
