You perfectly summed up why Luka is one of the most lethal players in NBA history. He’s virtually mastered the use of spacing. His combination of insane isolation play and pin point passes makes it so difficult to scheme against him. Feels like he guarantees a nearly open shot every possession. With him averaging over 30 a game all that needs to happen is that his role players hit their shots and like I said he guarantees at least one of them is open. What’s even CRAZIER is he doesn’t have just role players he also has KYRIE. On top of the already well oiled machine Luka creates the Mavs also have one of the best finishers and closers in league history. It almost doesn’t seem fair.

11:11 This play is a perfect example of what makes this team so difficult to deal with. Luka runs the high screen, picks up his dribble but the shot is not there and the play hasn't developed. IMO the Wolves needed to hedge, not drop. Maybe it wouldn’t worked but I can 100% tell you even prior to the series that drop and doubles on screens are the wrong ideas. Switching is the best obviously but the only teams that “can” switch with a big vs Dallas are the Bucks, Lakers, Heat, and Spurs. Even then I would feel hesitant to ask AD or Wemby to guard Luka. People mostly see his highlights as a scorer but Luka is first and foremost a half-court playmaker, that's his game, and the scoring is part of the leverage. He creates so much space by operating at half court, and once the defense is beat you have a high quality shot to finish. This team is alsmost perfect in using the advantages Luka creates : big athletic finisher that can use the space to score, and Kyrie as a release valve bucket getter that can also perfectly handle secondary playmaking.

Luka is a monster of a player, his fundamentals are as close to perfect as they can get (European player development, has been playing in pro clubs since he was 10), he's much taller than people might think especially for a PG, he's a great shooter that practices every dumb shot you could think of (3pt off the glass, layup from the 3pt line..), he can stop on a dime and make anyone look like an idiot when they fly by, and he's a fierce competitor with a lot of passion for the game.. I have never seen anyone who uses speed, or the lack of it, as effectively as Luka. If you give him space, he will speed up and attack the rim with force. If you play up, he slows down to create either lobs for teammates, or open midrange shots when the original defender blows by. There is just nothing anyone can do about that! A healthy Luka is unstoppable in P&R and Iso situations. Specially now, when he looks healthy again. He moves way better then he did against the Thunder.

Murray isn’t Kyrie and KCP isn’t Luka. If you rely the ball handling on Gordon and Jokic, they’d be gassed out dealing with Naz, KAT and Gobert down under. That’s why Ky and Luka was praised this series against the Wolves alot. Because they made everyone see that they’re far ahead in reading defensive schemes and they have enough skills to blow by any defenses. They tried to match up Luka’s “slow pace” with Anderson, but Luka is crafty and can accelerate if he wants to. If JMc was guarding him, he’d body the dude, and if they blitz him, they look for an open Kyrie who will either slash, throw a lob, or pass to PJ or Green in the corner.

i think the chess move for celtics defense starts at that three man spacing around luka's play, purposefully leaving the offense up to the mav's shooters in the corner. this will result in more pressure on them and kyrie to pick up slack, especially if refs end up swallowing their whistles for luka (highly likely, considering it's the celtics). from there it will end up being the celtics seemingly unflinching ability to make 3s this postseason vs the mavs amazing team chemistry to avoid tilting if an off shooting night occurs, perhaps one or two bad kyrie games to start the series as well. if they weather the storm and stick together keeping the vibes up, this will give luka and kyrie the chance to respond. if the tilt stays on all of their supporting pieces, it might be a celtics sweep.
