It’s funny to be reminded how the league had little love for the High Schoolers when Kobe came into the league. The announcer spoke like “How dare he not pass the ball?” I have no doubt if Kobe would have had Phil Jackson as his day 1 coach, he would have had close to 40k points. Was certainly low on the scoring options when he first got on. That will certainly affect your scoring when your coach doesn’t really want the ball in your hands.

I gotta disagree when Kobe got phil phil kept the ball out of his hands and in shaqs if Kobe was on a struggling franchise from day 1 and was allowed to start like say allen iverson was and nvr tore his Achilles he woulda easily and I mean easily passed Kareem kobe was ready to play from day 1 ppl say he wasn't but that's just not true he wasn't ready to lead and win titles from day 1 but he was ready to play if he woulda been given free reign like Iverson & lebron were he woulda passed Kareem up in record time but that's why he's my goat had to work for it

Phil hated rookies he wouldn't have played him either had kobe gone to a struggling team with no stars he woulda played immediately and had close to 40k him not playing much his 1st 3 years playing his 1st 8 years with shaq and not playing much his last 3 years really killed his numbers and yet he still ended up top 5 in scoring that's crazy

a couple things that stuck out: 1) incredible ability to get where he wants to go facing a defender (as opposed to turning away from a defender to protect the ball). sick handles 2) jumping off the right foot when attacking the rim gives him a half beat on the rim protector. guys still aren't used to that. 3) flashes of what he can do when he gets hot
