It's not every day the army tells you to stop riding.. and that's exactly what happened on this particular ride... We encountered them multiple times which made for a pretty unique experience!

If you look at the muzzle of the rifle you can see the yellow blank firing adapter. It helps cycle the bolt when firing blanks.
@helmeri
@helmeri 4 жыл бұрын
@@moosepasshippie During my military service in Finland, we also used those adapters, but i thought they were there mostly to destroy the wooden "bullet" that our blanks had. This forced me to do some googling and what you know, there are crimped and non-crimped blanks. "In the case of non-crimped blanks, it also serves to pulverise the plug to prevent it leaving as a projectile." So the day wasn't wasted as I learned something new.

That forest environment looked so familiar to me... I thought it was central Pennsylvania because I once lived and played there in the Appalachian Mountains... then I saw the license plate and it was confirmed! Don't worry about the blocks. They are temporary. I also ride sportbikes. Used to ride pretty quickly. A few summers back, I lost a friend on a ride. I got a HUGE mental block and couldn't ride anywhere near my normal pace. That lasted about a month. One day, After just riding at the slower pace, the planets aligned, the sun was shining, all things were right and the block lifted. So, just keep riding and when you are ready, you will be back in the saddle, as it were.

Being nervous is part of doing something new. Listen to them but learn to conquer them. If you dont youll be riding up lips all day but never actually trying them. Crashing is a part of riding new things. If you dont try anything outside your comfort zone your improvement stiffles.

SoCoRacingTV you are missing my point, of course we need to get out of our comfort zone and push ourselves to try new things. We just need to get out of our heads and into our body and feel what is going on. It is better to wait if you not feeling it and try another day. The off-camber stuff does not bother me unless it's slippery, like when it's covered by leaves like the trails in this video. I recently rode some leaf covered off-camber with serious exposure in Indiana and nearly lost it a few times. But isn't the risk why we ride in the first place?

I would've wiped out so bad on those trails. I'm a beginner-ish rider, I was in my high school mountain biking club, we got to a tourney and it was an intermediate course right off the bat. I bashed my helmet into a tree and my chain derailed a bit later on. Another course, not as intermediate, big stones, hence the name "stone soup" I went around a stone and clipped a tree. I ended up partially breaking my glasses and winded. It was very tricky. I haven't ridden in a while, currently in college.

Yes, they were Rangers. The Rangers train in the area VERY, VERY often. Not an uncommon sight to see if you ride them, you can also find some really cool "souvenirs" dropped on the trail. Best guarded trails in the state.

Man that mental block is a double edged sword isn't it. Sometimes it's just us knowing we may have a serious issue with the feature/obstacle and it's better to be safe than sorry. Other times it's just us over analyzing and doubting our own skill level and letting it hold us back. End of the day, we have to go with our gut. Nice video.

@@AndreiDragonulBGS why spend human resources guarding an abandoned base that has not been in use since ww2? Probably they use it for something more and they leave it abandoned for most of the year

@@luisa.espinoza48 its still in good shape and they want to preserve it in case of another war maybe? that guy gave me a mini tour of it, there was nothing left except some old cars. there were also some military checkpoints in the forest, but they are destroyed. also from that base its a full network of tunnels that goes under the city, like the paris catacombs, and it connects some important buildings.

It's called a blank adapter. Blank rounds don't have enough gunpowder to create back-pressure to eject the spent casing. By putting a blank adapter on the end of the barrel, the gasses created by the firing of the blank round can't escape the end of the barrel and instead go down the tube that forces the bolt backwards, which ejects the spent casing and loads a new one from the magazine. Side note, they get very hot. Saw a guy hold down the trigger on an M240 belt-fed machine gun long enough that he almost melted one off. The was glowing red and had started sagging before his spotter pointed it out to him.
