Hot Chocolate mix 1 cup Cocoa 2 tsp Corn starch 2 1/2 cups Powdered sugar 1 tsp Salt 2 1/2 cups Powdered milk Mix all together and store in an airtight container for up to a year. You can add mini marshmallows when you are mixing in the mug. You can also stir with a peppermint stick. 2-3 tablespoons of mix to 8 ounces of hot water This is a recipe I’ve had since jr high home economics class. If you meant to make it more chocolate you can add chocolate chips, or crushed candy canes will make it minty chocolate. I have even added white chocolate chips or coconut, I’ve also put a dash of vanilla. Some people could put a dash of Bailey’s (I don’t drink but a friend of mine likes it).

Tessie, I work at a Food Pantry at my brother in law’s church. I was given two trays of chopped tomatoes . Brought them home and canned 4 pints of salsa and 5 pints of the tomatoes. I may give some of the salsa as gifts. It felt so good to rescue this food. I hate waste. Thanks for inspiring me. God bless. 🌷

My oldest son was in a situation where he lived in a long term hotel converted into tiny apartment someone was kind enough to distribute food boxes to the residents there and one day he was carrying his trash out and people had thrown out canned goods😳😩 he took them scrubbed them well and used them up… you would think people in need would utilize free resources! ( these cans were not unusual types of food they were green beans and canned beans!) happy to say he is on his feet now financially and doing well😊

You are a girl after my own heart Tessie, I think food waste is terrible. The food bank I volunteer at doesn't have any refrigeration. They had an overabundance of onions and potatoes one week. WOW! Dry milk gets grabbed fast at the food bank I have volunteered at. People mix it with cold water and a wee bit of vanilla extract, which makes it taste great. The first Thursday of the month various food banks also give government foods out to seniors. We love bananas that has the sugar spots. I slice and freeze to use in smoothies, baking and I put some in my Vitamix and blend to make banana 'ice cream', which I add a wee bit of vanilla extract to.

Back when I was a young girl, and money was tight, my Momma would keep a few empty milk jugs. Then she would buy a gallon of milk, put half the milk in the other jug, mix the dry milk and water up and put some in each of the jugs. So one gallon of milk became two gallons. I didn't even notice the difference in the taste. Very frugal idea. What a blessing for you and your family Tessie. I learn something from you every day. Much love. God Bless Y'all. Huggggggggggs

Hi Tessie❤️

Our church distributes food from from two food bank sources, Tessie, and you're right -- there are SO many (necessary) rules and regulations! These (through no one's fault) can result in situations like the ones you're describing -- where there's nothing wrong with the food itself, but it cannot be given out. Or it's products that people don't want. Just one more example of how there really is enough food to go around in our country, it's just that there are mismatches in the amount of cash that folks have at given times, the number of grocery stores there might be in some neighborhoods, and problems transporting food from one part of the country to another. But folks shouldn't worry. The people who show up at our church still get loads and loads of food, believe me! I learned so much from this video. I had no idea that hand warmers and oxygen absorbers could be interchangeable! And that the clock is ticking when you're using the oxygen absorbers after the package is opened up. So glad that you were able to rescue so much food for your own household and for the folks that you know. Food that won't end up in a landfill now. Enjoy a peaceful, restful evening, Tessie and Chevy Man!

So glad you could make use of rejected food. You can use dried milk in recipes without reconstituting it. Just add the dry milk with the dry ingredients and then add the appropriate amount of water with the wet ingredients. Back in the day when dried milk was so much cheaper than regular milk, we used it in baking and cooking. Once cooked, it caramelizes and can even be used in hot chocolate or very hot coffee tasting as good as regular milk. If you need a richer milk, (whole, half half, buttermilk) add half again or double the amount if low fat powdered milk. We used to make a LOT of crustless quiche (upto 2-3 per week for 2 people) using a few extra eggs each, 1.5 times the milk crystals, some cheese, and what ever veggies we had back in the day when we were broke; powdered milk crystals, eggs, carrots, collard greens, and some cheese were the staples.
@KaylynnStrain2 жыл бұрын
powdered milk is something I would definitely take. when my mosque stopped serving community meals I was asked to clear out the kitchen and storage room I brought home what I could use and other people took home what they could use. once we start serving meals again people bring in food and not all of it can be used there so I bring home what will not get used
My mom used to do the half half dried milk as well for the 7 of us and we couldn't tell. I thought it was so smart of her. I knew the secret but my siblings didn't need to know 😆😅🤣
