"You only ever need one artist" - I just learned the hard way that excavating fossils qualifies as a digging decorating and research errand, so putting a cross in the researcher's decorating errands priority will probably prevent them from excavating fossils. In my case, my artist was a yokel, so I had to skill up my researcher to masterworks artist skill to get them excavated. Regarding draining jumbo batteries - you can use a transformer, especially when they're neatly placed on a leaf branch of the power circuit (ie. no consumers beyond them on the same branch).

Regarding rerolling the dupes into narcoleptics - I think it will be fair if you reroll every dupe in the pod into the first narcoleptic one, and then choose the best one out of all of them. This is effectively as if they were all rolled as narcoleptics in the first place.

Is he using that mod? Dupe generation settings or something. If he is, he can just pick the lesser of the bad traits and manually make it narcoleptic. You might have to fiddle with the mod settings to do this. I think that would be fair. He wouldn't have to reroll constantly either.

The interaction of relaxation and narcolepsy has been crossing my mind too. Will the dupes take naps in their sun chairs or fall on the floor? Taking a little on your way to the steam room doesn't seem to bad. Dupe retirement doesn't have to be efficient when all their needs are fully met.

I used to beeline for a half-rodriguez, until I watched a tutorial on the Hydra. The Hydra is more efficient, actually only over-pressures if you have fewer than 9 dupes, takes up less space, is slightly more complicated to set-up due to needing to create a vacuum in both sides (has seperate sides for oxygen and hydrogen), but can be easily built without any doors. In short, they are my go-to for oxygen production now, I love'em. :) The hardest part is creating the submerged oxidiser, which, if you are unlucky, can be a pain, or it can be achieved first time if you are lucky. lol I usually only build small colonies of 8 or 9 dupes, so one Hydra is sufficient.

I've tried a fully automated play through once. The most fun part of this I found was sourcing sustainable, labor free filtration medium and/or eliminating filtration medium from system designs. Atmo suit repair was the one thing I couldn't automate and I didn't want to completely stop using them.

To make the Niobium Volcano taming even more interesting, you can use the new Geotuner building to feed the volcano phosphorus to make it produce more niobium AND make its temperature increase by 50 degrees! Also if you go with full automation as a goal, you should also make a point of installing and using every niche recreation building, from the sauna to the juicer

One thing I would like to see is something I've tried, but always get distracted from finishing. I have always wanted to break from the mold of communal everything but have each dupe have their own personalized space. I think that would be a really interesting idea once you get to full automation.

Oxygen supply... hoh boy, there are some fun ones out there. My favorite is the polluted water bottle pit feeding into six puft ranches and two rows of deodorizers on top of it all. ^_^

Oh I have went the polluted water bottle pit before. A dupe peed in it, this left a thin layer of water that stopped the bottles from over pressurizing. Flooded the whole base with over pressure polluted O2 and the resulting chain reaction flatlined my power grid and took down half my base. Good times.

@@FrancisJohnYT I enclosed the whole setup and let the bottles run wild. Had up to 100 kilos of pressure per tile in my puft ranches at times, even with eight gas pumps pumping oxygen out of it. Needless to say, the pufts were having a great time. ^_^

Smooth hatches for metal refinement and one of the new Pips gives egg hugs but also they liked to be hugged thou I don't think hugging your "pets" should count towards labor so yes lots of changes that allow for the entirely automated base.

The fair approach for new dupes may be to reroll each dupe (if you want) until they’re all narcoleptic. But the first narcoleptic in each “slot” is locked in that is assuming you want to stick with the narcoleptic theme

FYI, Sandbox mode (or debug mode) disables Steam achievements. You get them in game, but they don't register on Steam, which is meaningful only if you don't have them unlocked in the first place. Mods don't affect achievements.

You should always use a double layer of insulation for a constant source of heat. In this case the overpressure will stop the source of heat, but remember that insulation tiles still do slow heat exchange with non-insulation neighboring tiles.

Cooking meal lice seems pointless, but before you get berry sludge it's an amazing space food since it stays fresh for so long. Cooking it also greatly improves your food stability, meaning you can stock a LOT more reserve food, I think when in a carbon pit with refrigeration it spoils at 0.3%? I had pickled meal lice leftovers for several hundred cycles after I got my berry sludge production running.

I've always seen over-pressurized and/or infinite storage stuff as a difficulty setting. It's harder to build things and fit all your water and all that fun stuff when you can't just cram it all into a few tiles and forget about it. This is a laid-back and easy playthrough, so if you want to play with a hydra/infinite storage SPOM, then go for it!

For late game please try your hand at making a CLRR (Coolant Limited Research Reactor) It creates enough heat to run 40 turbines at full tilt with a single Research Reactor.

The plan I'm going to try will be a steam room that turns all kinds of water to steam and when the steam room is above a certain pressure take the steam turbine's 95c output past a heat exchanger with the random water input and split it to 1kg packets and freeze it solid and have it all collect in one location to collect huge amounts of water as ice. Collect all the water on the map like this and melt water if I run low on water with an automated system somehow. I'm still not good enough at this game but I can try.

The biggest problem with trying to fully automate everything is that Ranching and Piloting have to be done by duplicants as far as I can remember. Sure you could wild ranch the critters (That sounds incredibly inefficient), but I can't think of a way to overcome piloting outside maybe a mod. Additionally, there is no way to make composite materials like Steel or Rare Materials without duplicants running the building.

I usually skip Mealwood completely, its so labour intensive, you need 5 per dupe, i stick with 5 dupes and focus on demolishing the entire starting biome and build 16x4 rooms without doors everywhere. On my current playthrough I ended up with 120000kcal of muckroot by the time i had done and had a grid of 36 rooms built. This provided plenty of time to setup mushrooms and do a lot of research too. I'm currently on cycle 1200, entire map demolished and have just run out of slime for mushrooms, they are so good, i have had 52 mushrooms growing since cycle 80, I have saved up 12 million kcal of fried mushroom that i am about to feed to the tree as i have been running on berry sludge for 800 cycles.

For priorities I always select the top box to prevent all dupes and new dupes from decorating then change the one dupe to have high priority for decorating.
