When the salad is out of bird's reach

My cockatiels are sitting their eggs, they laid a lot in the nest so they need extra vitamins from veggies to restore!
They are so exited to get their fresh greens that I don't even get the time to take it out from the package!
Never try to fly outside a cockataiel or a parrot without prior intensive training, not just recall indoor.

With these birds I always get the feeling that I see them drop 100% of the food they touch with their beak, as if they don't actually eat it but just nibble and drop it to the ground.

I think they just like to peck at the plastic xD BTW, what metal wiring do you use for your aviary? I'm going to build one and I'm concerned that the galvanized wire can lead to zinc poisoning.

Galvanized. It's true that zinc poisoning is real, still a good quality net shouldn't lose zinc. Parrots are prone to this toxicity because they hang with their break, if they do it a lot on the net and the net has free zinc there might be the problem. So, if the aviary is big, with many perches, sleeping spots, interesting stuff ecc, the birds will use their peck on other things, not the net, or so little that I don't worry at all. In a small cage I see it being possibly a more realistic concern.

Can you please tell me if cockatiels need to eat grit mixture occasionally? I give them Versele Laga Prestige Grit but recently someone told me I should not, because they are not like chicken eating whole seeds. Is it not necessary or useful? Maybe the minerals help them? Thank you!

Hi, the studies are poor but suggest that that don't get particular benefits of downsides by having them at disposal, if they are on a good diet. I think it's ok when the female is laying eggs to have an extra source of minerals, and also if your birds are on a seed diet which is poor on minerals among the others problems
