I love watching what I call dueling videos, on the same subject. I watched Jami's after I got home from work, and now yours. All 3 of you did a wonderful job on winterizing the horse barn. And I absolutely love her idea of using the plywood to help protect the horses hooves and legs. I've seen some videos of some nasty injuries when a horse hoof goes through metal. Lastly, you are much better at things than what you give yourself credit for 😊 I can't wait to see the finished project 😊 Take care and have a gr-8 night 🌙!

Hi Lester. The horses will appreciate the barn being winterized. This is to late, but I mentioned on Jami's video, they sell clear panels(light panels that allow natural light) that are the same size as the metal panels. It's clearly too late but may be an option to consider for next year .

My first answer to you is little Gary. Most people with other animals would not have messed with him. You master whatever you need to. I often did that when I taught. Just figured things out. When I taught at small schools, I taught drama, speech and other subjects I knew very little about. I just figured things out as I needed to. Guess I had more guts than brains.😅

You can put big plastic pieces in the open side so that the horses can go in and out but it stop's the wind. Plastic pieces hanging down from the roof. Many "open stall's" have this and I like it, too

Since then you have put up several buildings and Loafing sheds, got 2 more properties, built a herd of prime Longhorn cattle, and put up more fencing than I could ever imagine you doing. The trailer mechanism that went up and down actually had a wheel on it, so it was way easier maneuvering that thing into place. I remember a number of days that I would be at the end of the trailer motioning and telling my dad how to back up strict when he got close enough. A back up camera I think was the best invention automakers have ever come out with.

Don't forget when it storms you won't have to worry about the rain coming in from that area. Last year you had to make a trench around that back side to make the rain not flood in. I remember when Jami was in there staying with the horses that night. That's going to make a big difference.

I agree working to block the north wind. We have prevailing winds from the west usually. If we get an east wind, it is from over Lake Michigan and makes things cooler and damp sometimes. That can bring the infamous 20° drops in temperature. It is 80+ and you're sweating and then it is in the 60s, and you are not dressed for it. The biggest snow storms swirl around like nor'easters, starting from the north, then from the east. If it comes from the south in winter, it adds moisture and snow. In summer a south wind brings heat and humidity. Lifetime SE WIS resident here. I am glad our garage is northwest of the house. It blocks some of the coldest wind.

Hooking up trailers, boat, horse, stock, iron whatever meant practice, forward and back, in and out. I’m 68. My mom and dad were hooking up in the 50’s and 60’s. I was doing it as a teenager in the 70’s. Farm kids were driving and pulling wagons and stuff in the fields as soon as they could reach the peddles.
