this is why it is especially important to get verbal confirmation with another party before doing *anything* where the child would no longer be in your care. you dont let them go until you hear "yeah, i've got them, go ahead" i had a family member who drowned in a pool during a party, everyone thought that another person was watching over them. ending up in *no one* watching them, and sadly that's all the time it takes.

The rat story struck close to home. I recently took one of my mice in because I thought her health was in jeopardy. Being unable to afford any type of testing or treatment, and her being a senior mouse, I was fully prepared to have her put down. The amazing vets were able to get her examined and address her crisis without raising the bill too much. I was paying for the medication, my three girls snuggled in my carrier. A gruff lady came up next to me and told a tech she was here to pick her dog up from boarding. She asked what I had, and being in a very good mood, moved the carrier towards her. “They are my mice! And they’re all very happy they get to have their sister for a little longer.” She stepped back like I had tried to hand her a human turd. She said “you better get those out of here or my dog will eat them.” I was so stunned I just turned back to the vet handing me my receipt. She gave me a look that said “she’s here all the time and she always sucks, don’t stress about it.” I just couldn’t believe the harsh and uncaring attitude she had. People are awful

Denying any joy and sensory stimulation to a kid with autism has to be especially cruel. I can't speak on their behalf, but I've been diagnosed with ADD myself, and there's so many accommodations I could've benefited from in my own childhood that just didn't exist due to the poor understanding of those kind of mental disorders. Autism was probably the earliest disorder I heard of, which was basically boiled down to "that kid is weird and r-tarded" by most people back then and treated like a laughing stock to the point of constant bullying. It's sad that's how my entire generation came to be raised, and I feel lucky to just have been that usually awkward kid who tried to fit in as best I could and fortunate enough to have a decent friend circle and good parents. Can't even imagine how awful it must feel in those developing stages of life to be treated like your very existence doesn't have any value besides living up to astronomically unreasonable standards even by your own parents while nobody around you cares what you think or feel.

My toddler was very independent and explorative, he went from walking to running in less than a day. After too many times of realizing he'd made a break for the road or something dangerous i started dresssing him in lightup shoes and a little cowbell clipped to his back belt loop. They certainly do have their uses! It’s mainly as fun for the kid, but I can absolutely see their use an alert to where a potential escaper/runner is. Like how I put a bell on on one of my cats because she thinks she’s an outdoor cat but has ZERO sense of self-preservation. (any time we add a dog to the household, or when SHE was added to household, she runs straight up to the dog and basically throws herself at their mouth-mind you, I’ve only ever had pits.. this could be REALLY bad. I’ve had to introduce dogs to the household on leash AND muzzled even when they’ve been cat tested because she will absolutely treat the new dog like it’s her bff the instant she see it. She’d probably throw herself at a fox or a coyote. And her defense mechanism is to throw herself to the ground and expose her belly. Granted, I always leash new dogs for a few weeks and would regardless of her actions, but that initial greet from her is nerve wracking.w

I appreciate that the channel is trying something new; it's definitely good to switch things up and test things out to keep things from getting stale! Especially on the creation side, to help try to prevent burnout. But it just feels like the stock footage is a lot of extra work for a channel that a lot of people put on in the background. I may be wrong and in the minority here, but unless you are covering a subreddit with a lot of images, I'm just listening while I do other tasks. If I hadn't switched back to check what happened with the audio, I wouldn't have even known that the stock footage was a thing.

The gynocology one reminds me of this TLC show about a mother- adult daughter relationship that was close to incest. Mother and daughter were super close to the point they did everything together and excluded the younger daughter and the mothers husband and the wife. Daughter and wife tried for a baby via ivf and couldn't concieve. Daughter asked mother who was creepily excited, didn't tell the wife, no gloves, and the intense eye locking stare between them was so unsettling and creepy. If that boy is under the age of 16 and being treated like that I'd be making a call to CPS and saying you have concerns, while you may not have many details such as name and address, if she didnt fill out the form giving permission to service the vehicle and it was just verbal, you do have her license plate number, which CPS can get all the details on. 25:30 - Back when my grandmother was alive she used a wheelchair, which I would push around, when she went out for anything that we knew would require her walking more than ten feet, which was just about all the time. Well, one time on the bus this Karen of a mother, this was before they were really known as such, demanded the same thing. Now, my gran would now and then bring her walking stick with her that she used around the home. Well this Karen saw it and stated she can use that, stating her precious angel needs her sleep. The little girl was asleep and looked to be around 5. Well, my gran pulled it out from its holder, and the Karen thought she was moving, install my gran held it and just went matter of factly, and loudly. "Woman, the only thing I am going to use it is on your dumbass head if you think I am getting out of this wheelchair because you dont want to wake your child." The bus driver at this point wasnt having any of it with the Karen and pulled her off the bus. And yes, my gran would have smacked her one with it.

The story with the rat reminds me of how I was recently stranded at a train station in the middle of nowhere in a blizzard with my two pet pigeons in a carrier. It was when school was out too, so there I was, ugly crying because I didn't know when my next train would come and how to get where I needed to be, and one girl walked up and was like: "Are those pigeons???" And I, sobbing, said: "Yes." She asked: "But are they like special pigeons that you can bring with you everywhere?" Note on the Lion King: it’s a particularly loud and grand performance and I think any child under five would get overloaded, not to mention a baby. Sometimes it feels like your shaking and you can hear your heart pumping at five mph. I would not suggest you bring anyone with a single digit age. Still a fantastic performance.

Oh, the handicap parking one though. There is a grocery store that I go to with some regularity (partially to buy groceries and partially to walk around a bit to clear my head and listen to podcasts) and there was someone there with a Mercedes Benz with personalized plates parked in a handicapped parking spot with no tags or anything. That really annoyed me. I have a loved one who is handicapped and if she (or someone else who is handicapped) is not with me, I park in a normal spot. If she comes with me, but doesn't want to go inside, I don't use the handicapped spot. Oh, also, just because someone is in a wheelchair and is able to stand up and maybe take a few steps doesn't mean that they don't need the wheelchair.

i go the theatre regularly mainly to see musicals but every now and again i see something different and luckily there has never been a screaming kid. drunk women making a racket and heckling the cast of the musical on the other hand i have sadly been right behind. i was at a concert in the music hall in December in the front row and on the other side of the isle there was a lady with what looked like new-born who was thankfully wearing giant ear defenders and actually only woke up once during the show (i guess she woke the little dude up for milk during the interval) and as soon as he did she took him out until she could settle him again. he did not even wake up when one of the band members shook his hand when they were going around meeting the crowd. im really glad he had big ear defenders as i have autism with really bad sound sensitivity and ptsd and i have to wear noise cancelling headphones whenever i go out and i was really struggling during that show. i plan to get custom hear plugs for under my headphones for next time, the reason i don't wear ear plugs is because my ear canals are really really narrow

Yes please, I found the 'older format' to be more charming. I like an intro and outro to a video instead of jumping from 0 to 100 and cutting off at the end.

This was unfortunately a statistical decision. There were a lot of people skipping the intro and outros of Emkay videos, hurting the videos in the eyes of the algorithm, so they cut them, so people can watch them back to back without interruption (minus ads) and the channel gets better reception in the eyes of the algorithm.

Ugh I have my own gyno/mom not respecting boundaries story. I think I'm autistic,and I very much do not like to be touched.i also don't drive or make phonecalls because I have such bad anxiety. She kept nagging that I should get a pap smear and I kept saying no. I'm not sexually active and I've been vaccinated for HPV there's like really no reason to get one. She books the appt and drags me there. There's a cancellation fee if u cancel without enough notice and I was broke so it's not like I could really bail and I don't want her to waste the money.... Anyway I cried through the whole thing and the gyno was so nice trying her best to help me relax but I just did not want to be there. And then after all that I was supposed to bus home. This was 3 years ago but even now I'm crying typing this

As a rat owner myself, I understand how hard losing them can be, even more when it's an anticipation of the inevitable rather than waking up one morning to a nasty shock (in my view, in any case), though my experience is a little different. My last remaining rat is an old girl, and I know she optimistically has a few months left. But the hard part for me, is knowing I likely won't be able to see her last moments, as I have a bad rat allergy that's only getting worse, and my allergist let me know I have to get rid of her effective immediately or things could take a very bad turn. Now, I've been having highs and lows about it, and I've gotten a handle on a temper that used to be absolutely uncontrollable and would likely land me in prison for aggravated assault if I didn't get it more-or-less under control years ago. But if someone started treating me like that, during a low moment, after informing them they could not touch my rat? I think that temper might just make a grand reappearance. Edit: I possibly should have noted when it happened, but a few months ago I did surrender Bronte to the RSPCA, so my guess was correct. The allergist was also correct though, in that my allergy did in fact send me to the hospital the week after surrendering her, and I am now also not allowed mice or ferrets. Ah well, life goes on, but my original point does still stand :P
