When I was a kid I had a bad experience with church. I was surrounded by people who 'felt' Gods presence, who knew God and had a relationship with him. I was maybe 10 years old when during a service I asked God to come in to my life, to speak to me, to make himself known to me but I felt or sensed nothing. I was always told that God knows your heart and feelings so in that moment, knowing how desperate I was for God's connection.. to feel nothing was to me, rejection from God. I cried my eyes out because I thought I must be so bad God doesn't want me. I'm 40 years old now and am once again trying to build a relationship with God. I do believe that he has always had his hand on my life, he never let me stray too far from the path and I'm pleased to say I've learnt to recognise Him. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

Your testimony really touched me. Feelings are great, and can add to the worship experience, But can lead to experiences such as yours, where the necessary conclusion is, if I don’t feel it, it must not be there/real. Over emphasizing feelings caused your church to be a millstone for your own spiritual awakening/growth. I’m glad that God kept touching your life and that you kept seeking out God. Bless you, brother.

Thanks you guys for doing this for us, I personally appreciate it. 🇨🇦
@lucasDwooten2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for your loss. I am glad you acknowledge God, but I caution you going forward with the “big man upstairs” mentality. God is not a just our friend hanging out upstairs. He is the Almighty Savior and referring to him as the big man upstairs is quite honestly just a way of dumbing him down to make him easier to sin against since we’re more comfortable with that definition. I don’t say this to turn you away from him, but to turn you toward him in a more reverent way. He loves you and is always there for you in your time of loss. God bless!

I have played in a lot of worship bands in a lot of churches, and this hits so close to home in so many ways. I know this is all done in good fun and it was absolutely hilarious; but more impressively incredibly well done and produced. The song itself was extremely impressive, and capped off by a perfect impression of probably 95% of Protestant church endings right now (other than maybe a reference to a football game). Kudos on what was undoubtedly a lot of work!

I love how real this is. In highschool, the majority of the musiciansin the worship band, including me, were actually a metal band outside of church. Straight up, we're playing "This I Believe" on Sunday and the solo breakdown is the EXACT same rhythm of the solo from Iris. Also, for what it's worth, there are lots of churches like mine that dislike the musical emotional manipulation and needless repetition. We play songs (both ancient and modern) that are great musically/lyrically without purposefully whipping people into a cult-like frenzy.
@SeraphsWitness2 жыл бұрын
@El Novice Bassist almost all the songs on "Christian" radio don't do it for me. You're not alone. There are lots of great bands. Enfield, Keith and Kristen Getty, Sovereign Grace, Kings Kaleidoscope, Citizens and Saints, Shane and Shane... I could go on. I have a huge library of music we play on Sunday. Lyrics/theology come first, then the music should serve it. The problem with Christian radio music is it tends to be an inch deep and a mile wide.

As an atheist who was once a christian youth-group leader, I'm loving this worship band series. It's one of the few things that brings back very fond memories of when I was still religious. I definitely wasn't the best at the job, but I've always felt humbled I got the chance to do it. I was 17 at the time and had a license, so after friday night youth services I had to drive everyone who needed a lift back home. I hope all those little bastards are happy, wherever they are. Anyway, this series reminds me of that feeling of singing in the church band... and, tbh, some of the bullshit. Edit: Also, I really like how you talk about music theory in your videos. Listening to the skit, I just realized that this is what professional musicians must sound like, discussing keys and tempo and which parts of the song need more emphasis and where. I understood almost none of it (I'm a lowly scientist, sorry) but I would like to keep listening. Oh! I was always a fan of "Dance Dance" (I was 14 when the song came out, sue me), and I always wondered at one of the lyrics: "Falling apart to half-time". I always thought is was an American football reference or something (born and raised in Africa, I don't know what you guys are up to over there. Here we play rugby). It was only after watching you do Mr. Brightside that I realized half-time was referring to the drum pattern. I'd subscribed to your channel long before then, but that day I was proud I did. Much love as always from Zimbabwe. 4:53 - .... I love this moment because everyone always complained that my song choices were _boring_ . Philistines.
